Should I use a boost controller for this setup?

Hello, I'm kinda newbie in boost controllers. I know how they work, but I still might have some questions. I have on my car a turbo back, downpipe, o2 housing, exedy clutch and plate. Also I'm buying an Injen intake with all IC pipes. willing to do an ecu tune. Should I need a boost controller? Is it that necessary? If so, a manual or an electronic boost controller? Please explain advantages or disadvantages. keep in mind that I'm a newbie in setting a boost controller, I only know how it works.

well the ECU BCS is being improved by people like mrfred - I am not sure of its capabilities at the moment...

an EBC is still worthwhile + you get a included gauge...

thats my decision - defi gauge + defi controller was almost the same price as my EBC...

You will get the most from your tune if you increase the boost. The ECU boost control options work well (I use it myself) but are mainly for the self tuner. I don't know of any tuners on the boards here that will take the time to dial in exact boost with the ECU.

Some tuners offer base flashes which marginally use the ECU boost control and require removal of the solenoid side restrictor pill. This could be a custom tune option as well.

The easy and simple way to get the most from a tune is to just get a basic MBC from Hallman/Forge/BR/Perrin/Etc. Your tuner will set it for your desired/recommended boost level and tune from there. It's simple.

If you have a little more money to play with, the EBC's offer a little more functionality. I've tuned a couple of Profec Bs and they hold boost well and also offer overboost protection (which is often disabled with the tune). Since they employ an active solenoid, boost is constantly regulated based on pressure feedback and this offers great response and reduced taper.

Hope this helps.

Well, it could go two ways ... you could tell the tuner that you want to run XX boost, or the tuner could suggest XX boost. Either way, you'll have to adjust the BC to the level decided upon since the tuner won't physically be there.

If you use a MBC, it's a simple knob turn to set the boost. It's a trial and error process though ... set it low and make small adjustments until your gauge reads the boost you are aiming for.

An EBC is a little tougher to tune and you might want to get help with it if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself. If you are considering an EBC, check out my Profec B tuning tutorial. If you can follow those instructions and understand what the settings do, then you can likely tune your own EBC.

yes, i would definitely get a e bc. Specially because of their built in gain control features, such as in the Profect Bspec II type.

Use the ECU to control boost (this has been covered ad naseum see ecuflash forum)...Jestr sends email flashes that control boost w/ ECU....

Don't waste your money on an MBC. If you want one, I have a Hallman I'll sell you for $75 + shipping.
