Is the FC worth it?
Is the FC worth it?
How good or reliable is the Power FC? I already have a stand alone (autronic) but I'm looking to get rid of if it and switch back to a my factory ecu with a custom flash on it. I have a fully built motor with a whole bunch of supporting mods and the Apexi RX6 turbo. With the Autronic I made 449 hp @ 21 lbs. on a some what crappy tune. Is the Power FC worth trying? I've been told by a very well known tuner (who of which is a vender on this board) that I'd be better off going back to a flash instead of purchasing the Power FC because I would probably make more power with the flash over the FC. I find that rather hard to believe personally. To the folks running the FC, how do you like it and how reliable has it been honestly? Thanks in advance
FC vs Autronic
I think it all come back to the Tuner... If you have a good tuner... than I think you can get all the power you need from the Stand alone ECU( FC/Autronic/Motec...etc)
But the cool feature of the FC are that if you have Datalogit with it you can tune with knock map, and that help some time.. with street tuner...
Hope this help

No way a stock ECU can match a stand alone's max whp. How many 800 whp stock ecu'd EVOs have you seen? The stock ECU is very good and may be the best choice for you, but it can't match a stand alone's limits.
Why do you want to change from the Autronic? The Power FC is great and as mentioned above, is just as capable as any ECU if you have the right tune/ tuner. That's why I'm curious about why you want to switch out the Autronic. As good as the PFC is, it may not be any different for you than the Autronic.
But to answer your question, the Power FC is very reliable and with the Datalogit software, very easy to tune. It's ultimately flexible, easily allowing you to switch injectors and tunes ranging from 300 to 700+ whp. You're limited to about 45 psi, so if you're looking for 1000 whp, the PFC isn't your best choice.

i was usin djet's for years, and they r good for the money.
i have also used gems which have more features, but cost more (where im from anyways)
standard ecu's have many good features that people have unlocked, but i would still go for the fc for ease of usin, and map alterations.
and the fc costs less to map 2nd or 3rd time around (again from where im from)
i find that its all in your tuner/mapper. some prefer 1 ecu, where others prefer a different 1. i always ask my tuner, and he put it to me, as in, if i were to go back to stock, the fc i can sell for good money, where the standard ecu will have to stay on the motor/car. so in other words the tune money spent u will never get back with the standard ecu.
if your goin for, i'd say up to a green turbo, stay with standard ecu, but get all your mods done 1st, so 1 tune.
if u r goin with aggressive cam's, like say the jun's, then fc will help with your idle, standard ecu will make your car sound like a scooby and that is :gay:
hope this helps

What does the base map of the FC support? I'm between this one of the Cobb AP. I like the AP because it has a few maps to select from to support the mods I plan to get right away and it is pretty easy to use also.

When you tune with the Datalogit set up does it only read or sense knock, or does it not only read the knock but also adjusts the timing to reduce or eliminate the lock. I know my Autronic doesn't tune for knock at all like the AEM does. Also, is there a two step or launch control function on the FC? Not that it matters because I've gone this far without launch control and don't intend on launching it still but would like to know. My autronics has a fried internal maf sensor which explains why it's acted up the way it has and why I've had so much trouble with it I guess. But I'm still done with it and currently looking to switch either back to my stock ecu with a custom flash or perhaps a new standalone. I'm making right at 450 awhp with the autronics and really do not want to lose any horse power if I can help it.
if you get the FC, your tune will have to be with street gas
and if you have datalogit, then you can have your tuner make a tune for street and another for race gas and you can upload them yourself.

My FC was night and day from the stock. Was running a GT35 on stock ( was good) but once i pluged in the FC, i could feel a big difference. picked up 15hp through the whole powerband, with inital install and a very very rough tune.
Thanks.
