Could you tell me what you thought of this brand of ECU+ and why you would sell this system?

 

BUMP. THat's a good deal. I keep preaching the UTEC since it's the most bang for the buck and easy to navigate with the UCC. Very powerful. The only thing it can't really do for the Evo is Speed Density. TXS did finish speed density for the Subaru UTEC. By far the best bang for the buck IMO.

 

Lowell, could you tell me of the advantages of the UTEC system? can't seem to get the answers i want to help me decide. is this system beneficial for those with big MODS, like big turbos? what is it that you are running, is it the full system with datalogging? any impressions would be appreciated.

 

You can get a lot of good info from their website on the user instructions for the UTEC. I really like using it. I've got a 3" TBE, HKS264 cams, PNP manifold and O2 housing, TXS intercooler, Nisei IC piping, APS intake, still on the stock Turbo and injectors but on their ragged edge. Advantages I see are:
-Inexpensive as a used unit (Make sure you get the map switch, Tuner, and MAP sensor.
-Software available for free to assist in tuning
-Intuitive enough that you can do it yourself (I pull a few logs on the way home from work, then spend a few minutes in the driveway making adjsutments when I get home and then do it again the next day).
-Launch control if you so desire.
-Can automaticaly scale for bigger injectors when you go to another turbo
-Lots of adjustments that will happen behind the scenes based upon air temp, coolant temp, TPS, etc. You can program all these in.
-5 maps that you can switch on the fly while driving, plus valet mode, anti-theft mode, and the ability to switch back to stock at any point.
-Ability to hook up a spare solenoid for Water/Meth injection.
Download the manual and look towards the end where it describes all the inputs in the parameters screens and you'll get an idea of everythign you can do with it. I jsut installed the MAP sensor this weekend and am very happy. It's much easier to tune against boost than a MAF signal and you can set a target boost at different RPM's and Throttle points and it does all the work behind the scenes to hit that point.

 

hey thanks, you've basically sold me on this, there's a forum member who contacted me, he's selling his UTEC but he only has the ECU. i don't know if i can get the other pieces you mention. one last question, do you have a boost controller, or can you use one with the UTEC?

 

The UTEC can control boost pretty well. It was a lot easier to tune and get to stay flat with the MAP sensor. With the MAP sensor now I don't have to worry about different boost pressures depending on the weather

 

sorry, i'll try not to drag this on, but you are a wealth of information for me...so are you tuning with the use of a laptop? i know Mach V sells the UTEC tuning piece and i'm not sure if it's a needed item or not.

 

Yup. I'm tuning with the laptop. The Tuner is used in conjunction with the UTEC to measure the Air/Fuel ratio. I wouldn't buy a new UTEC or TUner, you can get them for cheap on the forums here. SO in summary, UTEC allows you to log all the engine information. COupled with the Tuner and a MAP snsor, you can tune boost and AFR effectively which is really all you need to tune with. I can't stand to pay a tuner $120/hr, so I'd rather do it myself and use my GTech accellerometer to measure HP and torque.
