What Is A Speed Density Setup?
I'm going to start adding parts to my Evo VIII. I plan on going with a lot of Bushur products. They air filters say the are recommended for a speed density setup. I was wondering what that is. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Speed density is a MAP conversion (meaning you eliminate your MAF sensor and use a MAP sensor instead). This would require messing around with the stock ECU or going standalone.
By eliminating the MAF, you get rid of the largest restriction on the intake allowing you to get more air into the engine and therefore more power. Like was mentioned before, this is not simply replacing the MAF with a MAP. You need either a piggy back engine managment system, a standalone system or I think you can mode the ecu to read in Map instead of MAF. You will need a complete retune no matter which way you go. If that's not what you were looking for, thenyou are goignt o want to look for intake equipment that works with the existign MAF set up. Good luck.
id just put a k&n drop in...it flows good and the stock intake set-up wont be outflowed until you start gettin close to 480-520hp....my friends cosworth motored evo ran the stock intake to 532whp with a drop in and it worked fine....just put the money into your exhaust,cams,turb...pretty much anything else...lol
Not the air filter kit. Just the mass air pipe. The filter is fine with the stock intake tube. You wont have any worries.
