I'm guessing the materiel in the muffler aint doing its job like before, I've had it over a year now.

Anyone running the Cobb high flow cat???
where in queens have ya gotten pulled over?

supwiddiss, they should send you out a brand spankin new exhaust overnight and pay a shop to install it for you for all the trouble you had from some damn 3" pipes. then, you could sell that JDM muffler section to me, lol.
Going to sit this one out until the next one is received. By the way the muffler is dented too, and the hanger is stressing the rubber. I'll get the pics and show everyone. Let's see if they pull another one off the shelf and ship it and it's all good. It does sound real nice. They should ship faster than they do for real but they don't. So I wait...

Now mine gets loud after I get on it, the hotter the exhaust gets the crappier it sounds, sounds like the muffler packing is loose.

Pics (Finally)

Take a look. I'm still contending with getting everything fixed once and for all. But as you can see, something isn't right.

Muffler and resonator pipe lengths dont match and hangers dont fit. Cobb tech support is stumped but is still actively trying to get it sorted out. I told them I have a USDM bumper.....but.

Why would the muffler hanger do what you see? I heated the hanger rod and bent a dogleg in it so at least the rubber mount wont rip. Stainless polishes nicely.

The welds are still very "stingy" in my opinion and arent as shiny and high quality as for example what you see on a milk tanker. That's what I didnt expect to see for (over) a thousand bucks.

My Cobb exhaust was getting louder as well as time went by. I finally found the problem and it is because of the resonator weld. Its not the weld that attaches the resonator to the exhaust pipe but the actual welding of the resonator where it curves dow to meet the exhaust pipe.

Here is a pic. You can clearly see the dark line which is the crack/split on the resonator.

I cant afford down time with my car and dont want a huge hassle so I'll probably just pay and have it welded rather than call cobb.

Those with louder exhaust check the resonator out. It was hard to locate the exhaust leak since it was soo far back, it made you think its the muffler going bad. But I noticed it when going through tolls or between small streets where the sound would bounce back.

If I'm not mistaken these mufflers are probably Stromung, so they should be good. I think they're stromung because the tip has the inner perforation quality like stromung has or at least their distributers have if they dont make it themselves.

yup

mine split there too. also at a flange on the same pipe. investigatrion says they're possibly not using the correct fill rod for the type of stainless the resonator is made from. this leads to cracking. it's just a poor quality thing. good drugs in utah, as they say.

interesting posts....I'm going to have mine looked at this week.

For those of you who have had this happened...how much louder are we talking about?

I don't think mine is louder at all...but I don't know what else I should be listening for..a slight leak sound or a full blown the whole thing sounds louder. Thanks for feedback.

I wonder how COBB will address this if these are all cracking??????

I have both Cobb AP and TBE with their high flow cat since my car had only 300+ miles (now I have a little over 6100). I have to say I love the sound of my evo IX and I get compliments on the sound. So far I have no problems with them (yet).
