No need to do that unless youre looking to make 500+whp.... Hard to justify price vs. power gain. AEM is the way to go though... I would consult whoever will be tuning your car since youre out of the U.S.A. to see what they perfer and what theyre good at tuning.

Cheers!

the stock ecu does really good for almost all evo owners (probably 85%) so most people will probably tell you to stick with the stock one

best standalone is Motec, but its also like $7,000.... the only problem is everything has to be set-up from scratch. it doesnt come with base maps like AEM or anything. so you need to find someone that has a lot of experience with it and you trust to set it up and tune your car...

since your the one that wants to tune it, i suggest go with something else. its not something you can just fool around with and tune the car. you HAVE to know what your doing

but Motec is the BEST. to answer your question

Ray Hall has left Autronic and have made his own ecus, Vi-PEC. These have all you need plus plenty more I guess. Very well priced as well. http://www.vi-pec.com
With Rays excellent support, you cant go wrong with this ecu.
He also have a plugin ecu for the Evo 8. Cant be done easier than that

What's your reason for going with a standalone vs. a reflash? If you're looking for more functionality, with less tuning hassle, then a standalone might be a good choice. I think the Autronic, and MoTeC PnP ECU replacements have the market cornered as far as quality, functionality, and reliability. I won't use AEM because I don't like tuning them.

Whatever you do, go with whatever your tuner recommends. If you're going to be tuning it yourself, then you should make up your own mind.

You might want to get in touch with Robert at MRM Racing, in Sweden:

... since he's in your general area.

I don't quite understand this response to the above post

Like it stated if you are not looking for 500+whp than use the stock ECU, you can even tune it yourself so do it. Ecuflash.

If you want 500+ I would rec AEM, plug and play and will certainly get the job done. Of course you are more than welcome to tune this unit yourself as well.

not true.
most people on here just run AEM because its cheap for what your getting. but its not the best. on this forum you will find a lot of people that swear by AEM, but then again they are the people that never tried anything else. AEM is a good EMS, and very well priced. but not all fast cars run AEM
