Tuning the RED.. Where to stop cranking the boost?

I recently aquired the new FP RED. I have begun tuning the car again on pump 93oct, and my question is when do i stop turning the boost up. To my understanding the turbo is much more efficient which theoreticly allow more boost? My mods are 880's, walbro, TBE, & buschur FMIC. I've been setting the boost, i'm at 25psi and the car loves it. How much more do i go, if any? No Knock and afr's 11.5 down to 10.8 up top.

btw full spool at 4k to redline.

CONGRATS on the new purchase. There are a few threads on this as a few people have also gotten the red. try searchig "fp red" I believe people were pushing 30psi, but I'll let them chime in....

It seems to me the limiting factor will be the stock block and how much power it will reliably support. The turbo itself might be good for 30psi (or more) but you are reaching the thresholds of what a stock block will support (especially if on E-85 or C16) at that boost level.

Thanks. I guess what im looking for is more information on, more timing vs more boost. I did find some good information here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuni...g-advance.html

I'm trying to figure what pays off more, without having a dyno to my disposal.

I understand that i'm beging to push the limits of the stock block and 93octane @25lbs.But where do i make those little steps to max it out? I will most definitly back down a little to keep it safe once completely done.

Most of the people with the red have more mods or different fuels. I'm trying to squeeze out what i can with my mods.

The thread that i read from above, people believe there is more to gain from boost than timing?

So another question, is it better to add timing or boost for a high octane map? It seems people tend to run a bunch more timing rather than more boost.

I've found that this can varry from car to car. For instance, my car likes boost. A friends of mine has the same mods I do and his car will knock 4 -5 counts in places with my map. We can turn the boost down 2 psi, raise the timing and his car will run with mine without knock. To answer your question, you will have to play with both to figure out what your car will respond to the best.

DLL will help you figure out what the car likes, try 25psi with as much timing as it can handle without knocking with a reasonable AFR. Then bump up the pressure a few psi at a time and shave off the excess timing and fix the AFR if it needs adjustment. Run those logs through DLL and see if it's helping or going nowhere.

Suggestion - get an EGT gauge/sensor. EGT's will rise due to a lack of timing advance. Between your knock sensor, your O2 readings and your EGT sensor you can find the optimal boost/timing.

My example may be skewed but - if you turn up the boost and compensate with reduced timing advance to eliminate knock, and your EGT's shoot up - the that means it is too much boost for your octane. This is because you are not able to give the car enough timing advance without knocking at that boost level. You are basically chasing the flame out of your exhaust valves.

for some reason i can't get dll to work with a single pull. It only worked for the 1-4th. I'm also using logworks which seems to be a pain in tha *** to convert to dll. I"m going to use mitsulogger and give it a try. Those seem to work.
