School me on evoscan...

Trying to find a good thread about general self tuning knowledge. I am looking at getting a tactrix cable and trying my hand at some data logging, and possibly some tuning. What software would you guys recommend for a tuning newb? Any advice?

Get the older Tactrix cable, not 2.0 You can't use EvoScan with the 2.0 cable but you can re-flash with it.

-Tactrix Cable
-EvoScan
-EcuFlash

..you're ready.

Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps.
If you have upgraded injectors, get them scaled first, and make sure the fuel trim are in line.
Set your boost, log, and see what's going on.
Make small changes to to the fuel table, log, and see if things get better or worse.
Make small changes to the timing table, log, and see if things get better or worse.
Small changes; .2 or .3 up or down at a time in the fuel table, 1 or 2 degrees at a time in the timing table.
I tune for zero knock, but that's just me. I have to make this car last 10 more years so eaking out that last horsepower and running the leanest air fuel ratio I can get away with is not my style. I ran across a saying back when I started;
"Lean is mean and fat is where it's at."
It hasn't failed me yet.

Evoscan supports the 2.0 cable now.

So if i dont plan on tuning it myself there is no reason to spend the money on getting the Tactrix

- OpenPort 2.0 Universal USB Cable
Datalogging and EcuFlash Reprogramming Cable.

or even the

- Limitless Designs - OpenPort 1.3U Universal USB Cable
Datalogging and EcuFlash Reprogramming Cable.

Id be fine with just getting

Limitless Designs - OpenPort 1.3D USB OBDII/MUTIII/SSMII Datalogging USB Cable

Im pretty new to all this tuning/logging software stuff, so im looking for some quality info so i dont spend a fortune buying the wrong crap.

I would personal get the Open port 2 as this supports logging to SD card and you dont need your laptop with you! Yes it is a little more expensive but I beileve its worth it. I have both the OP2 and 1.3U. Later on down the track if you decide you want to tweak your map you will be kicking yourself for buying the 1.3D Just my opinion Phil
