Evo VI Tommy Makinnen ecu upgrade??

someone is offering me Evo VI Makinnen edition, I heard that the ecu can't be reflashed. What stand alone ecu will work with that car? Will AEM work with that? IF I buy that car, I like to mod it, put bigger turbo and injectors, exhaust system and internals as well. Thanks in advance

Go for a Vi-PEC plugin. Very nice ecu with alot of possibilities. http://www.vi-pec.com/page_files/pluginecu.htm

the tm ecu, also known as a 6.5, can be reflashed with the latest version of ecuflash. it is in the first two lines of the release notes, not to mention it could always be reflashed with ecutek. those standard engines are not good for more than 380-400bhp, so the only gotcha with the standard ecu is if you get a forged engine and it's noisy you could be hampered by phantom knock and the standard ecu knock control. however, for about U$300 you can put a USDM evo VIII ecu in there with a well supported ROM that allows you to tweak the knock filter settings and get around a noisy engine. i can help you out if you need to know more about your standard ecu options. i've also done an autronic sm4 on an evo VI, so i'm no stranger to the advantages/disadvantages of standalones either.
