Is it safe to run 1200's on a stock ecu/bottom end? I heard from my buddy that owns a shop the the ecu is too hard to tune these and would possibly lead to "bearing soak" and i would throw a rod. Is this possible, anyone have any experience with this?

 

There are several stock ecu running big injectors on e-85. Search around the forum and you will find it. Alot of tuners don't like to scale them because it's alot of work. It can be done though.

 

It can definitely be done.. There are guys tuning 1200cc+ on stock ECU with no issues... I do agree with hempele28 that it is more of a pita to dial them in, but most of the guys running high HP numbers have a good base fuel inj scales prepared...

 

Maybe he just doesnt wanna deal with it, i am mainly worried about this bearing soak and throwing a rod, i have never heard of it until now

 

If you dial them in correctly there is no extra fuel to cause this "bearing soak" he's mentioned. Sure, running super rich can cause issues, but big injectors doesn't automatically mean running rich. You just have to set them up correctly.

 

That is what i thought, but this new information had me spooked lol

 

1200's, properly tuned, drive and operate just like stock.

 

Just sounds to me like he doesn't want to deal with setting them up ... lol. I've set up several cars on 1000cc and 1200cc injectors with little issue. Pump gas on 1200 and up can get tricky as you are nearing the limits of the stock ECU's settings, but it is completely doable. E85 is simple even up to 1600cc and double-pumper setups.

 

Would a double pumper set up be needed for a fp red and 1200cc injectors? what would be the highest boost i could go be safely on the stock bottom end?

 

Not on gas but on e85 it definitely gets to needing a double pumper. I'm hitting the limit of the walbro around 30psi of boost. If you plan on keeping the boost lower than it would be fine.

 

yeah i am not planning to go over 30psi on the red right now due to bottom end not being built
