Just wondering what many of us who self tune are running with regards to knock sums and what is considered safe. The self tuning sticky thread talks about removing all knock and going for almost zero with the occasional 1-2 knock. A tuner that I talked to said that knock of 5 is low and ok. Do some of you run 7-10 knock sums? I'm currently running a safe tune but if I advance the timing 5* the car feels much faster but the knocks are high (5-7).

 

at WOT less than 3KS is ok - as long as its inconsistant.

if your consistantly hitting 2KS in a certain spot (rpm/load) drop the timing by 1 degree

 

you will get some knock at spool up though...that is not bad. bad knock mainly occurs at the top or the rev range... right guys?

 

spool knock will persist into your WOT run which will reduce power.

if its consistant spool knock then tune it out, either check your AFR or reduce timing to avoid the knock
