Looking for a good place to Start.

I recently bought a completely stock 2003 EVO VIII with 90k miles. I'm going to replace the clutch with a solid after market racing one. I'm trying to learn how to work on and tune as I'm completely new at this. I'm looking for suggestions as to where I should start on my car?(as I don't want to blow it up).

Get a wideband.
Take baby steps. Log, log, and log. Make small changes to the fuel and timing maps at a time. Log, log, and log again. See how those changes effect knock, AFR, and performance.
Take a baby step forward. Sometimes take a baby step back.
Learn the relationship between boost pressure, air temperature, and octane.
