03 OZ Rally Start Upgrade Help
03 OZ Rally Start Upgrade Help
I'm completely new to all of this upgrading stuff. I have a completely stock 2003 OZ Rally Lancer and I was looking to get faster on my take offs. That's all I really want to do for now. I was looking for help in ways that I could do this. I'll be looking to put the parts in myself and I was just wondering what I should be getting.
Thank you for your time.

Dude, there's a million of these threads. And you're going to hear the same thing. There's nothing you can do to get more power, faster take offs, and what ever else short of a turbo.

Welcome to the forced induction thread!
There are 4 different ways to achieve the results you are looking for...
1) Turbo: If you piece your own kit together, which is easy with all the threads on here showing you exactly what you need, and install it yourself, your looking at around $2k to get 40-50hp increase (depending on your kit). Plus, you can always upgrade pieces to your kit.
2) Upgrading on your stock engine and keeping it NA(no turbo): Unfortunately, there aren't a plethora of performance parts for the Lancers so you are limited to your options, but can still be done. For this option, your looking at $1k just to get going, such as headers, cold air intake, and cat-back exhaust. And that right there is only 10-15hp increase. I would recommend this route if its your first time upgrading a car and you are not familiar with parts as these are typically easy installs.
3) Nitrous: Cheaper than the first 2 methods, BUT not dependable at all. You are asking for a blown motor. To safely run nitrous you basically need to upgrade your internals with all forged parts, and by that point you would be better just turboing it.
4) Weight reduction: The absolute cheapest method, of course as long as you're okay with sacrificing comfort and appeal to achieve this.
Hope this helped

10-15 hp increase? You're lying to yourself.
Man, I disagree. This is the worst option for increased performance. Complete waste of money.
And you say master this then move to turbo? I regret buying every NA modification except short ram and cat back and that's because it carries over to a turbo build. If I knew what I knew now, I'd put that $1000 towards a 4g93e head.
