Unhappy what happened here?

Hey guys, i'm not sure why this happened...

So I was driving my cars, in 3rd ear WOT and all of a sudden at 7k the car stops moving like i hit a rev limiter, so immediately i let off, stop and pull over. I get out of the car and check everything under the hood , no clamp loose, all the connectors are fine and nothing leaking. So i decide to go ahead and start the car and when i do the car is just miss'in like crazy. It sounds like its running only on three clinders.

I drive the car home less than a mile and start looking into it.

First I check the spark plugs, they look normal.

Next, I check the coils and wires to make sure all of them are firing, that looks good.

Finally, what i decide to do is compression test.
This is where things just start going to ****.

Cylinder #1- 0 compression.

So now im thinking, man that can not be right, the gauge is probably off. I test the other cylinders, all of em are 150.

I put some oil in cylinder-1 to see whether it is the bottom end of head. No difference so now i know its something in the head.

I pull off the valve cover and this is what i see, nothing seems broken. It seems this piece just fell off, did not break, just fell off. Now I know it should be a tight-fit between this and the cams but i can put it on and it is very very looose.

a closer look

Why did this happen and only to this one? Just one.
So what should i do? try to put it back on and crank the motor?
Did I bend a valve?

That's a rocker and they are not supposed to fall off. It could have been any number of things that would cause that. I would put it back on (kind of tricky but be patient and careful with the lobe surface on the cam). Do another compression test and see what happens. My guess is that you blew something, likely a ring and pieces flung up and smacked the valve at the wrong moment. Something had to give and it was the rocker. I've seen it happen on a DSM where a ring land or piece of a piston must have wedged between the piston and valve during stroke and it kept the valve from opening, kicking the rocker out.
