Is this a good start?

Hey everyone, just started getting into evos I'm trying to learn how the tuning works on these cars.

I came from an 08 VW Gti all tuning for them is a flash and dyno tuning basically is non existent.

So I'm starting over with a better platform 03 5spd evo 8

I want to start with just bolt ons for now.

I'm set on
AEM intake
Full 3" exhaust
Invidia o2 housing
Hks 272 cams

I also have a clutch master stage 3 clutch being installed next week.

With those mods I'm hoping to make 280 or so awhp on 91.

In order to make that do I also need
-manual boost controller?
-Walbro 255 FP

Also as far as tuning I want to stick with my stock ecu, but how can I store my tunes?

Let's say I get my 91 dyno tune and I want to keep my stock tune can I store it using a tactrix cable? I'm not sure what you guys use, or software to switch tunes..

Any help would be great.

yeah thats a good start and you shouldnt have much of a problem making 280 with that lol. ya might get even more if ya get a decent tune on it. i would def get a mbc and turn up your boost. it would also be a good idea to get a walbro 255. i think your stock fuel system and injectors will be sufficient to 25psi. if you get tunes with those cams intake and exhaust at 25psi you will be around 300 at the wheels im thinking. ya need to get ur upper and lower intercooler piping thats gonna be your biggest restriction, get rid of your cat lol. if you ever get the thing on the dyno with those mods def let me kno how it turns out try and find some 93 gas lol. as far as saving the flash. download ecuflash its free and get a tactrax cable then save your base rom and if u ever have probs you can reflash that. but if you get it tuned i wouldnt worry about it your tuner should kno what he is doing.

I would recommend better cams than HKS 272, those are out dated and are better options. I suggest Kelford 272, GSC S2, or FP4R. Don't waste your money on an upper intercooler pipe because there is a minimal gain if any and would require a mini battery. Also I would suggest a Megan o2 or MAP o2 housing instead of the Invidia one. I also wouldn't recommend getting rid of the cat unless you want to choke people riding behind you or if you don't like the smell.

Is the Megan o2 housing ok? Most of their stuff is pretty bad..

you should get 280hp with HKS 272 and a good tune. for the most for your dollar up-grade the turbo. Evo's are endless thats why I love mine. I am starting mine with a built stroker with all strong internal parts then the bolt on starts. I am going different route then alot of people and going with 10:1 compression. So I do not have to boost too high.blah...blah...blah...anyways have fun
