Allows for easy adjustment of the camshaft spur belts having idler pulleys with pin holes. Protruding pins grip the centre of the idler pulley and rotate it around its off-center retaining bolt. This rotation then allows for camshaft spur belt tension adjustment.

cheers

Get a 1/4 inch lb torqe wrench. You are missing 2 more special tools. One holds the crank shaft, the other is basically a really long bolt that will push down the tensioner.

For a 9 (IX) After you are 100% on timing marks before any rotation you need to do exactly 1/4 turn counter clock wise, then two full clockwise rotations of the crank shaft. You then verify all mechanical timing marks are lined up. There is no need for a timing light. Go get a tractrix cable and get ecu flash, & evo scan.. Read up on how they work. Then you might want to look towards downloading tephra as well.

It is very important to get the correct tension on the balance shaft and timing belt so you don't have a catastrophic failure down the road.

I would highly suggest doing research on timing belt procedure before you tackle it. It's honestly not that hard like some companies will try to feed you. I believe Evomoto has a good write up, but don't forget about the balance shaft procedure. I believe if you look around, there is a post somewhere, from English Racing that states a if you hold a balance shaft at 12 o'clock and let it go, the balance shaft will drop in a specific direction so you know the exact way it's facing. FYI ER will do T-belts for $500..
