Normal AFR bad gas smell
Normal AFR bad gas smell
Super noob here but need some help for my Evo IX- 93 pump gas.
Over the last month my car has been spending way more gas, fumes are out of control(if you stand behind my car and I rev it intoxication is very likely),finally and what got me into panic mode, when I changed my oil last weekend with a little more than 4k of DD to and from work on Mobile 1 full synthetic, it was jet black and had a deep gas smell. Nothing has been done to it recently, changed injectors and spark plugs over 10K ago without issues, AFR seems normal around 14.7 while on the highway, very rarely gets under 11. I'm searching for ideas, its been a little over 35K since my last tune, so I do need one but worried it might be something big, black gas smelling oil is stressing me out.

Ill rant a little. no sure it will help at all. its just what I would do. I'm more familiar with the X platform but commonly engines malfunction in the same manner. Check all of your vacuum hoses. If they aren't zip tied they have a tendency to pop off. I seen a thread for the X saying that if I've of the hoses pops of the intake manifold it causes the car to run rich. An the gas smell in the oil, that's very common with all turbocharged engines. I would recommend searching forums here for your car and see it anyone has the same problem. Last note. if you noticed a rotten egg smell coming from your car once its warmed up, take it to a shop. That's an indicator of bad ignition coils/spark plugs. Meaning that one or more cylinders isn't firing, the unused raw fuel is going into your Cat and the smell comes from the gas being heated in the cat and trying to burn off. This is the quickest way to ruin a good working Cat. maybe this helped?
