Bad coil caused short in ECU?
Bad coil caused short in ECU?
Hi,
Recently I had one of my Evo8's (GSR) coil go bad and according to the mechanic in the process of 'going bad' there were several voltage spikes which damaged the ECU.
Does this sound reasonable or do you think it is unlikely that the ECU is fried?
At the moment the car still turns on but due to the bad coil it run on 2 cylinders ... naturally the coil must be replaced but I'd prefer to not buy another ECU. (Due to circumstances I had to take the car to a shop that I've never dealt with so I'm being very cautious about what they're telling me ... especially since it took them about a week to diagnose the problem.)
Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Additional car details:
2005 Evo 8 GSR,
~100,000 miles
no engine mods
custom/personal and long running (~30k+ miles) ECU flash
