IAC question.

I ran my car with the IAC unplugged, and now the check engine light is on. So my question is what kind of damage could that do to my car? If any?

I had to get my battery charged right before this as well because it wouldn't start anymore from winter and it had some rough starts..Perhaps that could be a reason?
