ouch that sucks. I think thats probably a balance shaft, or one of those balance shaft eliminator deals. Either way, though your gonna be building a new engine.

Crankshaft would be thick. I'm thinking it's your bance shaft but why would that fail? Maybe a broken rod behind that? This sucks.

Shoot, I don’t know. I was doing 15MPH when it let go. Not even 2k rpms. I bought the car a couple months ago when the owner had one of the rods replaced. The shop has a good reputation with tuned power cars and before I bought it I had the shop go through the rest of the motor to see if there were any other issues. They said no. What causes this? It’s almost like where the balancing shaft slides in became unseated. Thankfully I wasn’t going fast. It’s odd though the car ran good other than the boost cut out, but I never ran it in boost I just used it to drive two miles maybe once a week. I see MAP has a short block 2.4 for $2,200 I’m pretty sure I can just transplant the head and other goodies over. Ideas from you guys?

500 is where the stock bottom end usually gives up the ghost so your failure is actually pretty normal.

Since you noted that you saw the car in the shop with the engine apart before you bought it, maybe that shop has a warranty on the work...worth giving them a call, maybe talk to the tech who worked on it, he might have some insight on why it failed too.

Yes, I will be doing that but I wanted to get some insite here first. Any other ideas on if the rod replacement could have caused this issue? Install errors? Anything.

Either installation error or bad break in. We should have a better picture once block is opened up. Personally, I'd lean towards installation error if quality parts. Butyou know that the shop will fight that tooth & nail.

Yeah that’s my thoughts as well. Unless I can prove they did something wrong it’s probably not worth the effort. When I’m not pissed I’ll pull the oil pan and look it over.
