Working with a 2006 USDM EVO 9. ROM 88590015 (please let me know if this is the wrong rom)
I got the car that was tuned and many monitors turned off.

I downloaded a factory 88590015 rom, flashed it onto my car, and only changed the immobilzer code to start the car.
Then I installed all factory parts, let all the monitors go through course to "READY"
Took it to ref, it passed everything except still "DATA CHECK FAIL"

The only thing the ref told me was that the software "Still didn't match the car" ..... not sure what I need to do here, Mitsubishi service doesn't deal with this and suggested I buy a brand new ECM....

Please helpppppp.
Was your car ever taken in for the cat recall that had the software update? If so, I'm pretty sure you got 88590016 like my IX did. If thats the case, it makes sense why you would be getting a data mismatch by showing up with 88590015 when it expects 88590016.

Idk, just food for thought.

Thank you for your input. Mitsubishi's website, it shows my car is due for the SC-13-002 (APRIL 30, 2013) software programming for cat. Do you know if this is the Service campaign that they will reflash to the newer 88590016 for the 2006 IX?
It's going in tomorrow, I guess we'll find out. I'll keep everyone posted, hopefully all this info helps future EVO owners.

I'm guessing you will be required for STAR testing for future smogs...

Well **** my life, just when I thought I was in the clear, I check my car and get this:
"Due to irregularities and/or discrepancies identified either during the last Smog Check inspection or during an off-cycle vehicle audit, this vehicle requires a Smog Check inspection performed at a Smog Check Referee station. Once the Referee issues a Smog Check Certificate of Compliance to this vehicle, it may again be certified by other stations during the next inspection cycle. "

Fuuuuuuuuuuck this state. If I hadn't just bought a house I'd be out of here in a heartbeat.

California is out to get every single dime they can from its residents. It's a shame, really, because it could be such an amazing place to live.
It seems our politicians reeeaaally dislike cars (considering CA is the birthplace of hotrodding) and guns. Both make noises. I guess that's the common thread. Cars, guns, fireworks, pitbulls, and anything else that is loud and scary.

I'm a little confused, so you passed at the station but then checked the BAR site and found this?

Exactly. Maybe I took too long to smog last year?

I had the 015 ROM, so maybe that also flagged it but still somehow passed station? Who knows, car has barely been driven this year, maybe a few hundred miles at most.

Yeah I absolutely love this state's natural beauty but as a libertarian it's becoming harder and harder to live here. I don't even get our smog laws, so I can't do *anything* to my Evo, but older diesels can roll coal and that's legal? Dafuq

Hypothetically if someone were to spend all their time at a residence not in California, shouldn't they register their vehicle over at that residence?

That's what gets me: I can daily drive a Diesel Chevy Silverado but god forbid I drive the Evo 1,000mi per year. I'm all for environmentalism when it's smart or at least makes sense. Otherwise, CA is an EXPENSIVE place to live, but it's okay to me because I take advantage of all of it, so I don't mind much (plus CA and HI are the two highest-paying states for my profession). I go up and down the state to visit the beaches, mountains, and other sites. Not to mention the plethora of road courses! But when the state makes owning a car difficult, it's definitely Dafuq, like you said
As for registering the car elsewhere, I had a CHP officer tell me that he *could* impound my car because my driver's license and car registration weren't of the same state. Truth or scare tactic? Neither would surprise me LOL

Went to Mitsubishi for Recall: SC-13-002 (APRIL 30, 2013) software programming for cat. and the Takata Airbag replacement.
Within a half a day they say the car is ready for pickup both recalls completed with no issues. Great..
Pick it up, got home to check that I should have the new ROM 88590016 , NOPE! they didn't do anything to the computer, I used ECUflash's ROM compare, Nothing. My original 88590015 is still in place.
The recall states that New ROM installed will be ROM ID 885916.

So I wondered about the Airbag, shined my light passed the glovebox, Yes new airbag.

Can anyone with 2006 EVO IX USDM , 5Speed that has Unmodified ROM 88590015 , plug in an OBD reader and go under vehicle information tell us their CVN / Calibration Verification Number / Checksum

Mine is: Cal.Verf.Number: CVN1 : 78 6B 70 7B

***UPDATE LATE 2019***
-Cal.Verf.Number CVN: 78 6B 70 7B. Stock 88590015 with only my immobilzer code changed allowed me to pass state referee!

changing the immobilizer code did not affect the CVN #..... I'm not sure if the VIN or CALID affects the CVN #'s.
Lets try to find out and also to help the EVO community

But none of that has anything to do with smog.
