imagine someone comparing the cheap cost of domestic vs. the more expensive quality of japan parts!! they were cheaper cause the build quality of the WS6 is cheaper.

There's two part numbers for the rear springs on the MR. I'm going to have to investigate.. On first impression the fronts are obviously different springs. Rears *could* be the same.

Perhaps Mitsu used different springs for the left and right sides of the car?

Is it because they are imported from Japan and / or sourced from Mitsubishi? I’m thinking that Bilstein will eventually manufacture replacement shocks for the US EVO and the cost will be closer to that of other models.

Further, do you have any information on the MR spring rates? Does the MR have different spring rates than the VIII (I’m asking this because I really don’t know)? If the MR does have different rates, wouldn’t the Bilstein dampers be valved specifically for those rates?

Thanks for your time.
Hey! these are very good questions! I also would like to know also! I will try to gather up some more info on the spring rates and why these Bilsteins cost so much compare to the off-the-shelf Bilsteins on the market.

I will keep you guys posted!

Thanks!

You are paying for specialty parts on a high performance car. Mitsu dumped a ****load of dough developing these parts, plus they are OEM, and OEM is straight expensive always.

That is my take on in anyway.

No they're cheaper because there are far fewer evos than trans ams (lower volume=higher cost), and the trans am has shocks, not inverted struts. An f-body has dual control arms in the front and a live axle in the rear, so there is no need for an overbuilt inverted strut performing damping and the structural work of an upper link (locating the wheel) at the same time, which is what you have with the macpherson strut on the evo (and most other cars these days). Struts aren't necessarily bad, porsche and bmw use them on the fronts of all their cars, but they are expensive in a high performance application.

I believe the domestic cars are cheaper, because the cost involved in importing them, making them seperate for US spec and luxury and gas tax that gets put on the evo.

Also, the brand name reputation value makes them hold their value better.

then all that nsnguyen said.

I think those blisten shocks are great, but bit overpriced compared to some of the shocks or coilovers that's out in the market now, such as JIC and TEIN.

The shock dampening ratio is also developed in conjunction with the spring height, so I don't know how they'll act when you drop it about 2 inches...

Do the rears come with new jounce bumpers????? Because the Bilstein damper has a different rod diameter!

BTW... Spring rates are the same as 03 and 04 model years.

Jounce bumpers? You mean bump stops? Do the Bilsteins rods have a larger or smaller diameter compared to stock? If larger, then you could probably just drill them out to make it fit. If it's smaller, no big deal. It just won't look as clean but will still serve its function.

As far as I know, the Spring rates between the MR and the GSR are the same.
