Question on cams

Is it true that you can use the GSC 280's with stock valvetrain, as long as you don't go past the stock rev limit?

yes it's true. You can go actually go a bit higher, say 7800 and maybe touch 8000on occasion, as long as you don't live at that rpm all day every day.

I'm running the 280's at 7800 rpm rev limit on a well "used" stock valvetrain with 60k miles on the springs with no issues.

How do you like them 280 cams? Which company cams do you have? Did you notice a huge loss of torque down low? I'm looking into 280 cams or GSC's S1 cams for the evo 8. Hmmmm decisions....decisions

Well this is the GSC forum, so yes, I'm running the GSC 280's. I love them, I have a 50 trim, so even with a milder cam, my torque suffered compared to the stock turbo setup due to the larger turbo. When stepping up to the GSC 280's from the HKS 272's, I didn't see any difference in spool. But on the flip side, with the HKS 272's, my hp curve rolled over badly on the dyno. But the GSC's were still going up at redline!

Depends on what turbo you're running, and where your power band is, but if you're running anything less than a GT35R, the S1's are for you. I know Greg has a deal on the 280's since they're being phased out in favor of the S1's/S2's, but the S1's are going to perform better in the low/mid range than the 280's by quite a bit. I'm just paraphrasing what I've seen Greg post, and I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

You can't go wrong with GSC cams. You get a good product with good support.
