Yeah, I'd think so, as you'd be eliminating the power-robbing catalytic convertor and factory exhaust.

sounds like your friend doesn't drive a turbo car. Non turbo cars need a little backpressure but turbo cars have more than enough backpressure already since we have a turbo restricting the exhaust and that's why we can completely remove the exhaust system and get away with it.
