theres nothing wrong with a non-IC turbo. as long as you don't overboost, make sure you have all the components and do regular maintenence on it (change oil for example), you could probably run it very very long.
where did you hear this from? ppl always say that to me at car meets, must be bc they dotn have self control and owuld overboost. you should be fine if you are cautious. as far as how long it will last, i dont knwo what exact parts oyu are talking about.
I want to get non-IC TSI kit for my OZ. From whatever I've heard it's not a bad idea, and you can cool it off by running the water line from the radiator. But let me know if it is really good to have non-IC?

i was reading some article in a "building high performance 4 cyclinders" race manual. My cousin used to race 4 cyclinders before he switched to modifieds so he has a ton of books on it. They said that a non-ic turbo with any amount of boost over 5 or 6 psi is not good for your engine.
Boost is relative. Effective compression ratio is what will ultimately come into play. Larger turbos make 5psi with less heat than smaller turbos, 9.0:1 CR will run hotter than 8.5:1 CR etc. With the Lancer 5-6psi with a T-25, T-28 or T-3 is a safe range, but that doesn't mean it's the limit in general.
Essentially. If you were to decompress (with say a thicker head gasket) and run slightly more boost, you'd probably still be within tolerance to raise boost 1-2 psi. Of course it may take a little trial and error (meaning close monitoring of the knock sensor), because this is relatively uncharted territory with the Lancer, but so long as the heat generated in the intake charge by the turbine doesn't raise significantly you should be fine.
It will last as long as you make it last. Take care of it. Don't overboost, change your oil regularly, avoid predetonation, and it should last as long as a naturally aspirated motor, especially if you're not abusing it.
well from my experience.. 11 months.. 15k miles.. been at 5psi all 11 months turbo kit put on and taken off numerous times for inspection.. header changing.. replacing heat wrap etc. etc... i run it hard.. but i take good care of my car overall always oilchanged no more than 3,200 miles.. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!.. yeah i hit 110/120 mph sometimes.. but i make sure the turbo is always warmed up before beaten on.. and made sure always cooled down before car is turned off.. non-i/c is fine.. like they said.. take care fo your car.. dont overboost.. and make sure you keep track of your maintenance..
