to turbo or not to turbo?

right now i'm saving to upgrade my suspension and wheels and tires and after that i wanna do an lsd and then i really want to add power, but i'm not sure how i wanna do it, cause i'm pretty sure if i just did bigger tb or multiples, headers, cams, ect ect, na stuff i could gain some decent power and not spend a ton and be really reliable, maybee even add nitrous, but the other thing i was thinking is i could go turbo instead, but i wanted to know if i would be breaking down all the time and wear out my engine really fast and all of that, also it would suck if i got pulled over and had to take out the turbo if a cop popped my hood, but then some of the na stuff isn't legal either, like headers although they are less noticable to a cop, i know nobody's had a turbo that long but do you think i'll have problems putting one on my only car thats a commuter and daily driver?

thanks

If installed correctly and not abused and well maintained, a turbo will last you the life of your car. If you're worried about plopping all the money down at once build up to it. Find a cheap used turbo to start and look for a rebuild. Since you're in CA, EVERYTHING save for a panel filter, an un-noticeable throttle body mod and suspension mods is pretty much illegal since I'm 99.9% sure nothing has CARB exemption. If you want decent power with less initial cost and looking for longevity, go for a mild NA tune. Not gonna cover what all that entails because we already have threads about each route (long ones at that). Each way of gaining power (forced induction, NA tune, bottle fed) can kill your car in a different way if done incorrectly, so just stay on the straight and narrow and you'll be fine. As for a daily driver with a turbo, only problem I see is using more gas, as you must already know, is not the cheapest thing around. Also, try punctuation, it can make things easier to understand.

I agree with p. It is still up in the air what I am going to do with my car. I like the idea of being NA tuned, but I like the power you can get from a turbo. It totally up to you on what you do. There no wrong choices as long as it is done right.

Read a review on the Aerio... Car and Driver Ranked it worse than the Neon SXT and the Lancer, both. Christ man, numbers aren't everything!

I'd almost guarentee straight-line victory over that car, all hp numbers aside.

Yes, the Aerio has more HP, but the car on the whole is far less impressive.

But, andrew, more claimed horsepower means that the car will out-go, out-handle, and just overwhelm a lesser car like ours... what are we to do?

Cry. Cry like your puppy died.

Let me see if I can find a side by side comparison.

I was really being sarcastic, and how did you know about Bubbles. *sniff* He was a good dog *sniff*.

My point is this. If you know what range you can "hunt" in, there is no reason that the Lancer will be beaten by numbers alone. Let's get real, folks. Put down the magazine, and go to the track, if you're worried about your car being "wussy."
