installing my custom turbo & have some Q's
i like your last statement, its all tru, lol. i know i need to change my driving habits, ie:braking time, but one fortunate thing is that i have wayyyy better brakes than stock junk.
i guess i gotta watch my coolant too then, oh well, dont bother me none, not when im driving a turbo lancer.
im not looking to be the fastest, i would've bought a gsx, or gsr if i wanted pure speed. i bought this car because i like how it looks, and its different, im just not happy anymore with my 100 horse motor, it needs to be fed more.
btw: i'm a good driver, i never wrecked, and i only race my car on a closed lot on friday nights and other than that i pretty much only do a little over the speed limit, basically keep up w/ other traffic, this turbo is mainly for show, as my plans are to do performance this summer and finish the looks next year, then only enter it in shows and get another daily driver, such as a talon, or the like. dont get me wrong, it will see its fair share of use though.
thanks for all the tips airquez, and did u get my pm?

Apparently 95% of drivers consider themselves above average or better.
Congrats, but one thing to keep in mind is not to total your costs until EVERYTHING is ALL done. Things have a way of sneaking up on you, especially when money is involved.

hobie, all i was saying is that im not one of those guys who goes out and wrecks their car 3-5 times a year, i kinda know my limits with this car(i hope). also, thanks for the tip, i know money doesnt go far, im well aware i'll prolly see that total go up a bit. still better than tsi's kit though and still cheaper. nothing against tsi, but im using all name brand parts of my choosing, and rrm's up/down pipes(which i happen to like more).
teamflare, as long as your not starting your project til july august, then this could be helpful to you, cause i dont plan on doing this til the end of june or so. btw: i dont think your gonna need help w/ rrm's kit, from what i hear, its perfect. good luck

alrighty, time to bump this. i have a question. would it be possible to use a 1g eclipse b.o.v. for only 4-6 psi and then 6-8 psi later on? reason im asking is my greddy got stolen out of my backseat, and i dont wanna spend another 150 minimum on another one. is there some way possible to make them work for such low boost or should i just cut my losses and buy another greddy bov.
thanks a lot,
pete

Yes yo ucan use the 1G Eclipse BOV... as far as I recall (I dont know, I am getting old, so I might be wrong) but I think that Eclipse BOV is good for about 20 -22 psi uncrushed before it starts leaking. So there is nothing wrong with using the 1G Eclipse BOV. I actually recommend it if someone is doign a cheap 1000-1500 custom turbo kit.
I know 1G owners will tell you that it leaks at low boost levels uncrushed but in my experience, that has only been people with bigger setups (upgraded turbo, IC and piping, exhaust etc) that still had their stocker uncrushed.

That savings can be passed on my side... it woud go well towards a 160 thermostat
....
FMU is still here... had a couple offers but you know lancer guys and esp. miragers, broke broke broke so it still sits here.

also, are you sure that the 1g bov will open with such low boost? that was my original question but i worded it terribly.

ehh, time for an update i guess, i got some more stuff.
i got a evo 8 fimc for real cheap off of subigst, a 12:1 vortech unit off of megadeath2018, some "trick" ic pipe couplers, a pipe and flange for the greddy bov, cheapturbolines.com's oil line kit w/ 3 extra feet of return line cause mega's was wayy to short, and i got another greddy type s unit, i opted for it instead of the nonadjustable 1g bov, plus the greddy is prettier, lol.
i dont have much more to get, and the real expensive stuff is already purchased so i guess im actually right on time with my amount of money spent and time schedule for this project, yay!! i cant believe i actually am only spending about 1400 for a ic'ed turbo kit. i also got a import trenz evo 7 v2 full kit from lsevo, its in the mail so im waiting for that too, the only thing that su<ks is waiting for this stuff and working 60+ hrs. a week to pay for this stuff and buy more. im worried i wont have enough time to install it, so im scheduling a full week off work from june 29 to july 5th. everything is looking perfect right now so i cant wait, i cant even sleep. so check back for many many updates and PICS during that week and towards the next week look for video, maybe with some including OZlancer1 if i can meet up w/ him. im going to keep using this thread to complete stg 2 turbo, and then i'll revive it next yr. once i go stage xxx, providing no one hits me, or visa versa, it blows up, or some dumb@ss steals it, etc. if none of that happens, then i'll be on my way to completing this project and prolly move onto a 2g gsx or a wrx sti, and build that up, hopefully.
I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR SOME PARTS:
basically what is listed that i havent purchased yet in my 1st post,
a egt gauge from autometer, the phantom series one, mine just dissapeared from my garage, if i find it i'll edit this and say i no longer need one and kill whoever took it, unless i just misplaced it, lol.

Hey maxum17ft,
I have that Walbro 255 for ya. I paid $95 shipped and I'll let it go for the same. I originally started putting together parts for a kit, but now live in an apartment and need a reliable daily driver, not a pocket rocket. Don't get me wrong, the project car is going to have to wait till i have a garage. Once you get it running, let me know if your in MA at all. I'd like to check out your handy work.

Yup,
Its the 2nd Gen eclipse one. I only opened the plastic to read the instructions. I had considered saving it and adding an adjustable FPR to even out the flat spots in acceleration, but I prefer to see it put to better use. I've been helping my friend with his turbo dodges for years now, and have a wealth of knowledge on turbos. You might want to think about a wideband 02 and air/fuel gauge for your setup. Zeitronix makes a great inexpensive setup with data logging for road tuning. You don't want to dare go lean!
