installing my custom turbo & have some Q's
iight, i figured i'd start a thread for my turbo setup, that way if i need help, hopefully someone, somewhere has my answers. i am piecing together this kit for my '03 lancer es 5spd.
my plans are to put this basic kit together and once it is on, keep throwing more money at it until im finished. to start, im gonna run between 4 and 6 psi,
by the end of the summer i plan on between 8 and 11 psi.
next year, if college expenses allow me to, i plan to go ALL out on the internals, like omarboy is, but even more extreme, however im sure by then, he'll be even faster.
my list of components, prices, and condition of the parts is listed below:

im gonna keep this thread updated as i go along in my project just like Travis(megadeath2018) did for his '04 lancer, i hope all of you can be as much help to me as you were to him getting his car boosting. as you can see i still have to buy some parts, so as soon as i pay for it, its going on the car.
i also hope this thread can help out future do-it-urselfers and car lovers like myself from making mistakes i do or learning the things i am doing.
i plan on doing the install in one straight week around the end of june or the beginning of july. i'll post a ton of pics for you guys, cause i know everyone likes to see pics. when im done and its running i'll post some video too.
wish me luck.
oh, and sorry about the GIANT pics of the turbo and piping, and the outdated pics of my car.

2. yes you use your stock fpr, i would have to check how the lines go bc i cant remember off hand, but its all in pieces so nevermind lol
mike thanks.
i know egt isnt fuel management, lol, but i listed that cause it keeps an eye on temps. on the type of condition your fuel system is in, ie lean rich...., this leads to my question, if i would be lean or rich if i didnt have an e-manage or the like. and good luck on the rebuild, when are you re-assembling it?
and thanks for letting me know you use the stock fpr, now i just gotta figure out how, or hopefully someone can tell me. megadeath drew me a diagram on how but that was for an '04 lancer w/ returnless fuel system.
and thanks lookslikeanevo for the sclc thread, i never go on there, i dont know why, i just forget to. thanks for helpin.

I would highly recommend getting a piggyback controller, if you are running a custom kit on a non-stock-turbo car. I know people that have run the 1.5L mirages without one, but they are few and far between. I would get one.
I also have an FMU for sale if you are interested. PM me if you are.
On an off-topic, I understand the safety concerns in terms of preventing destruction of your motor, but 4 psi is awfully low for a turbo setup, esp. if you will be intercooled. I dont know, I guess I am biased as per the Mirage setups, but I personally dont think it is financially feasible to drop all of that money into a turbo kit and then just run 4 psi. I mean, that 50 psi can be attained for less money with bolt-ons. Not to be critical or tell you what to do or anything, but I think that you can run a higher boost level safely if you get the car tuned and most importantly, watch those EGTs.

boe thanks alot, that diagram is perfect, it explained everything on how to hook up everything, its awesome, thanks!! how long did that take you?
airquez, i sent you a pm i also know that 4 psi is nothing at all, i plan on 4-6 PSI to start, just 4 psi for the first week or 2 to make sure all the bugs are worked out, then 5 or 6. heres what i plan to do, put the kit on, and then by later in the summer, i plan to buy more stuff piece by piece and get it tuned, then i'll push anywhere from 6-9 psi. once i have an e-manage and injectors, etc..., prolly around august, then i'll get it tuned. i know as long as i watch my boost and egts i should be safe, for now.

Boost is nice, but prepared to be hit with a rash of other concerns. For example, I cant WOT from a standstill .... the torque steer kills me. LSD is def. needed. And of course you will have to be constantly monitoring your coolant levels, your oil level, vacuum pressure etc. Boost is fun, but not all fun.
PMed ya back btw.

oh, i know it comes with a price, but i dont care, im a car nut. i love working on, looking at, or doing anything related to cars, especially mine. i cant wait to spend a week installing all of this, i really cant wait. i dont usually wot from a standstill anyways, i'll prolly do that starting in second gear, first has to much torque now, i cant belive what it'll be like with turbo. just a question, but y would i monitor my coolant level, i thought oil just goes down a lot. i always assumed if coolant is leaking you have a problem. and luckily i had some people send me a diagram of all my vacuum lines beforew and after turbo, so i know where and how to look. i dont plan on getting an lsd, i'd really like one, but 800 plus install doesnt seem feasable to me right now, maybe next summer i'll look into getting that. are there any other concerns? besides oil, coolant, vac, temps., along with to much torque
just wanna say, yippi, i picked up an evo 8 fmic for 110 bux shipped. this kit is gonna cost me like 1400, wow. and after the injectors and tuned e-manage, it'll be just like having a stage 2 kit for 2000 dollars. what can i say besides im now luckiest man alive, thanks to ppl parting out, and my bro's free tuning, and my research, lol.

The only other concern is remembering simple stuff, like your brakes were made to stop a 120 bhp car and not a 250 bhp car, so dont get too excitable
and not being able to brake in time
