I am thinking of going turbo but I dont know much about turbos and wanted to know if they are safe and what kind of problems they cause. I am specifically looking at the TSI turbo. thanks
yea with the TSI kit you'd probably wanna get the Fuel System option #2 for an extra $550 and upgrade to the dual ball bearing t28 for another 500.... total for that would be $3749. You still might have fitment problems...not sure just what Ive heard.
I would do one of two things.
RRM Non - Intercooled Turbo Kit for $2799 to start and maybe intercool that in the future or Spend the extra money and get the RRM intercooled kit for a solid kit with really good power.
Like i say though this is what I would do, my opninion. I wish you luck with whichever route you go.

It's definately safer than Nitrous if thats what you mean by long term effects
It's all about the boost i guess. You can run low boost get good power with minimal mods and not hurt your engine.
you can run a little more (9psi i think) if you uprade fuel system to get enough fuel there to keep it safe. And if you upgrade the internals you can run even more.
For instance with the RRM stage 2 kit at 9psi it needs the fuel system upgrades like injectors and pump in order to keep the engine running safely. If you take care of things like that so that nothing blows up or anything then i dont think it will harm much of anything....other than your pocket like i said before.

I would look at the existing threads. You're hardly the first person to post from your position. There are some pretty comprehensive threads with informative debates in them. All you have to do is dig a little.

Dude if you dont know that much about turbos then go with the RRM kit. The TSI takes so knowledge and fabrication. But, it is cheaper than RRM. The TSI kit doesnt take rocket science to figure out but if your new to the turbo field then dont bother with the kit.
DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! THERE ARE ABOUT A MILLION POST ABOUT THIS!!!!
