Question Intercooler Protector??

Alright, heres the deal... I am going to be taking a trip up to Chi-town to visit one of my buddies and meet a couple of guys for the ***NEWLY RESCHEDULED***: Dynoflash Dyno Tuning Trip - Chicago - February 10. The last time I drove up there the car that I took was completely covered with bugs which was dirty, but nothing a simple wash couldn't fix, but now that I am taking up the inter cooled turboed lancer, I don't want the bugs all stuck up in the intercooler... is there something that I can use to protect it for the way there and way back? has anyone found anything good that would work?

Go for a fine mesh. Should be all you need.

there was a thread in the evo section like this, with a fine mesh you will block most air flow. I wouldnt do it.

What about just zip-tying a piece of fiberglass window screen to the factory mesh in front of your IC?

For just steady state cruising down the highway, I think you'll be fine. Now if you're planning on being on boost the whole trip, this may not be the best...

i don't think i'll be boosting much on the way up so i think something like a fine mesh would probably do the trick, it's just going to be temporary for the way there and back bc I don't want all the crap on the IC

Dont do that, you will keep the air from cooling the bare metal.

Am I the only one here that is not stupid?

Itll be fine if you do one or two coats. The metal will still cool fine! Your talking about a car with 400hp or more, maybe then id worry!

Plus why are talking about painting a intercooler black..........lol

it was just an idea...black IC behind a black mesh grill will conceal it more and make it less appealing to theives' eyes. and i dont think it looks bad to have a blacked out IC w/ a black car. but if it will restrict airflow enough to make a difference, then screw it.

i have mine blacked out, imo you will not keep air from cooling anything because youre only doing it on the area facing the front, the air still travels through all the intercooler fins in between, unless you cake the paint on the thing you will be fine, i just misted mine so that you couldnt tell what it was. And even if it did make a difference it would be minimal, like go2fast said we arent making the kind of power where you would notice that..... just my .02c
