ROAD/RACE- Turbo my 08's NUTS
wow.... thats exciting to hear... but i dont remember is this on a manual or a auto?? im guessing manual b/c of the clutch situation... i guess we wont find out how much a cvt will be able to hold up to..
i guess the clutch isnt the same as the evo x so maybee the ecu is not the same.
i think the high tq will not be so good for the cvt. i hope the tests are done by middle of march when my 1 year is up. this will decide if i trade it in or not.
I think the CVT will do better than we are all worried about. Given its a belt system, but so are many timing belts these days, so lets see. Too bad that the manufacturer can't give out test vehicles to junk around.
^ does it have "teeth" like a timing belt, or is ti like a Vbelt (flat)?
we need a upgrade to a chain belt or something
oh any HOLY CRAP IM HAPPY. your turbo kit is basically my decision of what to get for my next car( lancer or supra [na] or wrangler)

Not to go to far off topic, but do you guys (ROCK and the RRM bunch) believe that it would be possible to change the belt on which the CVT runs on? or is that out of the question?
....stronger belt more psi?

As far as I know, don't hold this to 100% truth, but the CVT is generally an non-servicable transmission. I'm sure you COULD get in there and do some insane modifcations to adapt a chain to it, but that would pricy, not to mention good luck on finding someone who will actually take that job.
Ahh, me too....but who knows who is actually going to take a perfectly operational CVT and push it till it does go BOOM. I'm not sure if RRM will, but I know Evosoul was talking about finding a CVT out of a junkyard and then having fun with it but will he do it? Only he knows.

i believe the cvt is going to hold a good amount of pressure/force... it's running a steel belt... not much different than a chain, though can be moe durable due to the fact it's not "linked" together. i think really all us cvt owners really have to worry about at the moment is what the engine will handle.
If you look on Youtube for Lancer CVT there is a video describing how it works for the techs and it shows a metal chain/belt not a rubber belt like everyone implies. It is made by Jatco and is model F1C1. Unfortunately this looks to be the one of the smallest (weakest) that they do make. Would have been nice to hve the once out of the Outlander which would take alot more abuse in a Lancer.
i've been doing alot of research on the Jatco "F1CJA" Transmition also known as the "F1C1" used in the Mitsubishi Colt/Lancer. It is made for Small Vehicles, this does not mean it is not gfoing to support a large amount of tourqe, if they used any other drivetrain by Jatco, it would most likely not fit under the car. a compant does have a part number for the belt, incase needed to be replaced... it is possible to repleace parts within the transmition, it's just a hard process.
