I read somewhere that there is a supercharger in the works, from work, sometime early next year is what i heard. Has anybody heard anything from any other companies on a future supercharger kit?

 

I haven't heard anything about it. What's source did you get this from? From what I've been seeing, the '08 isn't really a priority for WORKS, so don't hold your breath.

 

if this is true, it would be cool, But I rather hear the Wissp of a turbo rather than the wine of a supercharger. Just my 2cents tho

he didn't say from WORKS, he said "In the works" which is an expression meaning "someone is working on it."

 

I imagine RIPP will probably take a shot at it, as well, but honestly, superchargers aren't that well suited for 4 cylinder engines. Nothing to get excited about.

Yep from what I have seen from Ripp for the 3g Eclipse their piggyback required another piggyback(Brat), that half the time didnt work right and still got an SES light most of the time ran like garbage, Id say pass on Ripp as well unless they get their **** situated and lose those little gimmicks they had in the past, but supercharging an I4 is rather pointless, V6 yeah but I wouldnt supercharge a small 4cyl.

 

i have first hand experience with them, and its not good, and their shop forget about it.

 

sorry to bring up suck a decently old topic but i need some clarification about turbo vs supercharge

i hear that a supercharger give u less power compared to a turbo, but the cost of maintaining a turbo is far more expensive then a supercharger, is this true?

i mean even though our car is a 4cyl but wouldnt supercharging it b alot better for the engine in the long run? because our cars arnt made for a turbo, and if u turbo an NA car alot of problems will come up in the future, like maintaining a turbocharged car compared to the supercharge, and even though a supercharger isnt putting out as much power its also not putting as much stress on the engine?

 

There are pretty big differences between the two. Without going into major details, the big difference you'll see is less boost which equals less horsepower. There are some pros and cons to both such as:

Superchargers: Ease of installation, cost, instant boost, less hassle in the future, ease on engine, less down time.

Turbocharger: More boost(horsepower), Tons of upgrades, better suited for four cylinders.

Really, it all depends on what you have in mind for the car. If you want to race, then I say turbo it. But, if you only want to "wake" the car up and have a little more pep, then go supercharger.

Its not like you have a choice on the matter anyways. There is only 1 available turbo kit(Road Race Motorsports), and one more close to release (Xtremeboost). No superchargers, I don't think there are even any in development. Unless you want to buy a universal supercharger and fabricate the entire kit yourself, and tune...You can just Turbo it, and run low boost so its easy on the engine. These engines cant take that much boost with stock internals anyways. I think Xtremeboost said theirs only runs like 8 psi (Not 100% sure how much boost, but I know its very low in comparison to something like an EVO).

 

I wouldn't push this engine too much further the normal bolt-ons. Especially those of us that have the CVT.
