Welding the flange...

I swear ive seen pics of the lancer flange welded to an evo manifold before. Im just needing pics of how the runners look inside afterwards. The inside 2 line up pretty well but the outside runners are off by atleast 8-10mm. Interested on how people have made it work without chopping the old flange off and re-positioning the runners?

^^help

I think anyone with welding skilz could make it work perfectly. But I've not seen decent detailed-pics of work on this yet.

lancerrally, was it a ***** to drill out the stud holes? I hate trying to drill a hole on the edge of another hole, the bit wants to follow the hole thats already there. Know what I mean.

I was thinking about triming the megan mani so I wouldn't have to drill anything.

^I know not everyone has a drill press, but that would be one easy solution. You can use clamps to hold it onto the drilling station while hitting them dead-center.

It seems as if you could just drill holes straight into the evo flange. why doesnt anyone do this?

i suppose you could try to drill them out on the evo flange, but have fun. it sucked alone to do it with the flange welded onto it. but by having a guide hole...sorta, made it a little easier. there is a couple of the holes that will want to pull your bit off center, so you just have to take your time with those and take sure your still level.

drill press would be the way to go, but if your doing it doing it on your own. carbite bits (be ready to break some) and a dremel with lots of bits. haha. thats how mine was done.

Well my friend has a drill press and a welder..I could tack on the flange, then drill to get good straight drills. If it fails, I'll just weld it on. We shall see how it goes

I had a shop tell me they wanted $30-35 to weld on the flange. If I end up using them I will have them drill it out too. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Local shop said they would rather fill in the holes on the evo flage and redrill them to match the lancer head. they also want $ 75 per hour. I said no, but was thinking about having a friend do it. would that cause clearance issuse with that coolant pipe that runs under the header? does anyone know?
