I think the only way that competition would really drive prices down is if the supply was a lot higher than the demand. Other wise, you'd just end up with 2 equally expensive kits to choose from. Even if that turns out to be the case, it's still not bad, because it's always good to have choices...

I'd agree with nunyas. I don't see either company doing a price drop to compete. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, Blacksheepdj didn't touch me, I think he has a thicker skin than that. If I were to be kicked out, I would half expect it to be by someone that I actually offended I guess I offended someone else vicariously through you Blacksheepdj...I take it with a grain of salt.

OK, no more talk of drama. On to the turbo kit that may or may not ever exist...

From everything I've read, my official position is "don't hold your breath, but maybe."

Exactly, that is why I ripped them a little. If they have the N/A race car, I think they should be releasing street versions of the parts they are using. Maybe they are and I just haven't noticed...are they using a drop in filter in their race car?

Press release mentions that they built/balanced the block, but makes no mention of bolt-ons.

Jamie?

Works sounds good, and they have the access to the proprietary software that runs the ECU/CVT, and they just released a drop in filter and a pipe for a muffler. I am confused but, I know for other versions of the Lancer they have a lot more products. I am confused as to why they are delaying so much in making the street versions of their race parts, ie. cyl heads, cams, ported manifolds, ect. I am speculating that they want to get some wins under their belts to build enthusiasm.

Usually it's a matter of potential customers. The parts you mention are quite expensive. The average Lancer "tuner" wants an intake, an exhaust, a shift knob, etc. (this is seen in what they and RRM already offer). Bigger ticket items won't see as many customers, so it's bad for Works to prepare them and have them sitting around on shelves. If you called them up and asked for the same cylinder head as the SWC car, they'd probably work something out with you. But to have them in stock and on the shelf is generally a losing business proposition with these cars.

Quick example - after beggin on the forums, EvoM members convinced RRM to sell forged high-compression pistons for the 4G94 motor. Road/Race made 5 sets of them, priced at $700 each. They had a hard time selling those 5. Now imagine how it would be to offer a $2,000 ported cylinder head...

Oh I completely understand that, but like I said, I am surprised that they haven't even made a decent attempt at an intake. Drop in filter to me doesn't exactly scream "race team" product to me. Neither does a mandrel bent tube with a muffler tip on it. I don't know, I like what they are doing, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. They are in at an significant advantage over everyone else being THE TEAM on the circuit, they should try to capitalize a little more on it.

^^ dude seriously shut up.

If you look at how long our cars have been out, it is amazing that there are a lot of parts out yet. Quality parts take a long time to design, and plus the Lancer isn't the only new car that came out last year. Making something one off (for a race car) isn't really that hard, because if the race car blows up after 500 miles (or whatever a couple races are) it isn't a big deal as you drop in a new engine, however I am sure you would be back on the forum if your newly turbo'd '08 lancer put out 350hp for 500 miles then grenades. You have to think, there has to be a business case, ease of installation for all the customers, a place to source all the parts continually and consistently, and testing to back up your design. That is much more complex than building a project race car.

Making a turbo kit could take over a year with R&D everyday. With the long term wear tests, tuning properly, making it work and then implementing that into an easy installation is impossible.

I know what you are saying, but as black sheep mentioned, if you THINK you could do it faster, go and make a company on your own, make it to the quality that Works can and I'll buy it.

You're such a real man...

One example is all I need to make. RRM vs. WORKS

just compare the amount of products that have come out. The point is, since you obviously didn't get it, is that I hope that WORKS starts competing with RRM in the near future.
