Safe to turn up boost after tune?

My car has been tuned by reese tuning for months now and it runs good. I have a 7pound spring and I boost about 6. I'm thinking of upping the boost to 9 or 10 whatever I can get the spring for. What are your guys' opinions? If it seems to drastic I won't, but I'd like more power and I don't have another few hundred bucks to drop to have it retuned just for that...so any suggestions, thanks! or related experiences?

um.. well our ecu doesnt correct for more boost. so you will more then likely lean out with the extra psi. depending on what your tuned at, it might be safe, but that would depend on your tune and how rich/lean you are already.

gernerally speaking, we cant just up our boost due to our ecu not fixxing it unless you have another map to run off of. thats the main reason why i dont have a boost controller and im only going to be using bigger springs in my tial 38mm.

oh.. so just to push 2 more psi.. i dont htink spending a few hundred on another tune is worth it. keep it safe till you build it(if thats in the plans)

well if you have a 7 pound spring im sure your boosting at 7psi, no matter what you have your boost controller set at!

Wow...well first of all I have a 7pound spring and I don't have a boost controller, and boost controllers don't turn down boost homie, since that's what was implied.... and it's actually boosting about 6 due to the large fmic....anyhow, anyone else tried this? If not, I'm leaning toward not doing it, being as I've already put a second engine and it was a pain in the ***....but I'm thinking of putting a ten pound spring in, turning up my fpr a little bit and watching my a/f and if it stays rich then I might keep it....what do you think? Thanks

dont forget about timing. depending how aggressive your timing is at 5 psi, it can cause knock when you turn the boost up

i've gone from 5 psi, to 7 psi, to 10 psi, to 13 psi
going from 5 to 10 was a whole new car, and surprisingly going from 10 psi to 13 psi was too

? You can turn down boost using a boost controller, you're limited by whatever wastegate PSI is though. Anyways, if you like your engine as it is, ie. in one piece and with moving pistons, I wouldn't do it. Buy a boost controller and get the car tuned.

You cannot turn boost down below what the wastegate spring pressure is...and I DON'T HAVE A BOOST CONTROLLER either way, anyhow I'm going to talk to the guy and ask him what he thinks...but thanks anyways

Yes so if you have a 7 lb wastegate spring, you cannot go below 7 PSI however you can use a boost controller to raise it rather than buy a new wastegate spring.

I prefer the wastegate spring only because the boost controllers aren't always 100percent efficient in my experiences, but thanks

If you buy a good boost controller, it'll be fine. There's a reason why Evos and STIs don't have a 20 PSI wastegate spring. With a boost controller, you can raise or lower the boost pressure depending on the specific situation. If you get a bad tank of gas or it's really hot out, you might want to run less than 10 PSI of boost.

Until the motor explodes since it's not designed to take boost, period.
