I think LuDa hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the same two cars. The new Civic Si is quick and very nice. If I wasn't sick of having FWD, I'd be looking into that. My gf has a Rabbit, so I probably would also consider a GTI considering all the standard stuff it comes with. I'm hitting 29 this year and have had my fill of FWD. So, I'm considering the Genesis Coupe, rumored future Nissan Silvia, and developing Subaru/Toyota O86A Coupe in the next couple of years.

Honestly do the OP if your looking for something new and your trying to get some good power look at a Civic Si or a Genesis coupe i would go with the Genesis with it being RWD and having lots of attention and aftermarket support and i heard the insurance isnt as bad. stay away from cars like BMWs and Lexus benz they're expensive as hell to mod and not that reliable. i wouldnt really reccomend something like a cobalt SS or GTI because just like the lancers they can only be pushed so far.. but with cars like the genesis you have a lot of playing room to go with. if your into old cars a nice DSM like a GSX would be nice or you could find a nice RX-7 they run cheap or even a supra which you can find for low as 20k.

so its a lot of options
Did you just say the Lexus is not reliable? Are you on crack Lexus has been the most reliable luxury car for the past 10 years!

What are your goals for the car? Do you want 1/4 mile car or a track car. You could always look at a 2nd Gen Eclipse with a turbo.

Rx8? those are good looking cars and they added that 100k mile engine core warranty on almost ll rx8s I believe. They were about 12k + when I was looking for a car. they're one of my favorite cars. And if you're talking about 16K-20K can't you find an EVO for that price?
