Buying my first

Hi everyone i just turned 16 and got my permit. Now i am thinking about getting my money together for my first car. Obvioosly i started looking at civics, eclipses, rx-7 and jettas but came along lancers and realy like the looks and the 4 doors is much more practical. Anyways i so far am decided on getting a lancer. I just wanted to know the pluses and minuses of the es and oz. the year would probably be an 02-04. Also how long in general will these cars run? Is it going to be worth getting a car with a 100,000 miles on it. and I plan on driving this car through college. I also will be doing some basic tuning like exhaust and cold air intake. Maybe turbo depending on how much it costs. Keep in mind i make minimum wage at Mickey D's (first job) and dont make a lot of money but my dad did say he would go halvesys with me. Thanx

Why is this in forced induction? I suggest you read the FAQ in my sig and maybe do some internet searches to find the differences.

I guess my most important question is how long will these cars run. I know i am asking like how long a light bulb lasts but how long have you had your lancer before encountering basic engine trouble( in miles)

I am not sure what i am going to do about a turbo but it isnt my first priorety. Should i put on a cold air intake and exhaust before turbo because i think thats what i am leaning towards?

how long the car last generally would depend on how you drive and if you keep up with maintance, if you keep an eye on everything and research ahead of time to find the limits of the motor, turbocharging and such you'll be fine.

the differences I think between es and oz are the cosmetics I think, I've ridden in a few and seen a lot up close so no huge differences to me

Bolt-on mods like these do very little for performance gains on Lancers. I hope you're not expecting large gains from these. Many new Lancer owners are solely disappointed by this fact.

i agree. but what i did is that i knew i was going to go turbo one day so i started on the intake side with the ported tb and intake mani, lightweight underdrive pulley, CAI (ebay) (which got used for aluminum test weld on an old welder for the turbo setup), and the clutch. good starting point there if you know what you want to do.
