4g94 map sensor question
4g94 map sensor question
Hey guys so ive finally made up my mind to turbo my 2003 oz. I have already picked up a evo 8 16g w/9.8 hotside and evo 8 fmic w/all piping and bov. Now as im getting everything else together, im trying to answer a few questions that i still have. Does the factory 4g94 map sensor read boost or does it top out at 0 vac? Same with the factory fpr - does it increase psi with boost?
Well right now im trying to fit it up against the bottom of the crash bar, but the ic hangs out the bottom of the bumper roughly half an inch or so. So right now im drawing up some plans to fab up a sheet of metal that will go from the bottom of the front bumper, under the ic, and back up a bit and screw it to the bottom of the lower radiator support - something similar to those metal aftermarket skid plates you can buy for the evos, but alot shorter. Im not comfortable with the ic hanging out half an inch without any protection. It fits almost perfectly directly in front of the condenser, but since the fans have to be moved to that location, the ic will have to bo mounted elsewhere.
While im on this topic, do any of you guys know where i can find a turbo manifold with a 16g flange for the 4g94??????? Speedcorps decided not to make the one they released for special order and are refunding people.
Now back to the map sensor and stock fpr? Does anyone know if the stock map sensor and fpr read boost?

No the stock map or fpr do not read boost and need to upgraded.
In other words, the ecu needs to be reflashed and the fpr needs to be replaced.
Get a walbro 255, bigger injectors, and aem fpr to safely turn up the boost. Once you have all that done then get the tune.
OhSixLancer- Where in Illinois you from?

Thanks dude, so i know which fpr im gonna go with, but wheres a good place to get a new map sensor?
For right now, my plans are to run 8 psi and see how it goes. If i like it, then later this summer i plan to pull the motor and do forged internals and the whole deal and i plan to run 19 or 20 psi.
Also is a 1 to 1 ratio fpr a good route to go?

You don't need to change any of your sensors. The only upgrades you need is fuel and ignition. If anything get some Magnecore or MSD wires but you won't really need them.
I've been boosted for a month or so now and haven't had a tune, just make sure to monitor everything and always check for leaks.

yea see im gonna buy the tactrix cable so i can mod my ecu tables but if the map sensor cant read boost and the ecu sees over 100% load, doesnt that make it hard to tune as opposed to the ecu knowing exactly what is going on? Now im not saying that i wanna replace the map and let the ecu work things out, im still gonna tune it. So then my question here is can you tune the ecu with the ecu now knowing the motor is boosted AND have good results or will the ecu be able to read boost with an aftermarket map and not do anything about it cause its not programmed to?
