what turbo what psi?

Haven't been here in a while, but I'm currently running a 7pound spring and w/ my fat intercooler I think I'm getting around 6psi, well my analogue style gauge shows that, I really need a digital to see exact amount, anyhow, I have a t3 turbo 45 trim
(COMPRESSOR .42 AR TURBINE .48 AR TURBINE) and I'm dynoed at 218hp and 241 ft/lb tq, give or take a few, that's off memory, I can call my tuner but it doesn't matter...my cars fast, but I know there are guys running 10-11 psi, I want to know what kind of numbers you're making w/ those smaller turbos, I think I remember mostly 16g's and stuff....I'm trying to compare to see how much boost I can turn this up to safely, because I know I have a slightly bigger turbo than the other lancers, give or take some, not sure...and I know bigger turbo flow at 6 psi can be equivalent to smaller turbo flow at say 9psi...hypothetical, so I'm REALLY hoping some of you turbo guys can let me know your setups and possibly numbers and psi etc....so I know what I can safely work with or if it's even worth it, I'm just going to turn up the boost possibly until my a/f ratios start to fall off rich, or maybe they'll stay rich (hopefully) w/ my boost up a little, THANK YOU in advance hope to hear some info

No answer anyone gives you is going to be the right one and no answer anyone gives you is gonna be the one you want to hear.

Turn it up 1psi at a time and see if your motor holds. If it does, great. Go up another 1psi. If it pops, you've found your limit. Simple as that.

If you don't like my suggestion, then you shouldn't have asked your question in the first place. Questions like yours do NOT have answers associated with them.

Make sure you have a built engine before you turn up the boost.

senate, you're an idiot....another typical "I gotta be cool on a forum, so I'll be a smart a**" Brilliant.....If your brain could process better, you'd realize the question implied in the statement was; What is everyone's turbo/psi/and mods...simple as that, I will take what is provided and form my own conclusions, apparently that is too much for you....I realize that to turn up boost a significant amount will require forged internals and such...however, I'm not asking for a lecture. I just want to figure who is running what stock or not. I'm also not asking for a moron to provide an unintelligent answer such as, turn it up 1 then see if it pops....really? Your parents must be proud....anyhow, let me rephrase, for the simpler people which I didn't know I'd be dealing with. Everyone w/ a turbo lancer, please inform me what turbo/psi/and mods you're running and if you know or roughly know, your numbers. It would be very much appreciated to those who are decent and respectful, and all others who feel the need to follow in this senate guys footsteps, please refrain, because I don't want to hear more useless garbage, thanks.

your not limited by boost, its how much power you want to produce. i want to say that 220-240 whp is the observable limit on these stock motors. and having a stock motor with big turbo at 8psi produces more power than a stock motor with small turbo at 8psi only because of the difference in discharge temps. so someone who pops their motor with a small turbo at, say, 10 psi, could have done the same with a bigger turbo at 8. its because of the horsepower limit, which is basically the flow through engine... oh and ive been running a 16g6 at 10psi on stock motor for about a year.

Thanks for your info...do you happen to know what whp and tq you're running? I'm possibly debating whether to switch to a big 16g instead, I have a 45 trim t3 right now and it's laggy...full boost hits at almost 4k....I think the b16g full boost will hit right below 3k and probably start at around 2k....plus pushing that at 10 will probably be about the same power band I'm in....I'm still researching, that's why I'm curious who's running what turbo as well, and what there boost and gains are, I should be asking what is everyones starting and full boost rpms as well, that's the fun info , lol thanks

I do not have a turbo on my lancer yet but from what I read the stock pistons can handle 10 psi on a good tune and the rods can handle 12. Someone please correct me if i am wrong. And second as stated above 10 psi is 10 psi regardless if you are running a turbo from a lawn tractor of from a huge semi. The difference is the heat generated. And that's usually what destroys people engines. So I would say with your turbo if you had a good tune you could turn boost to 10 psi no problem since you do have a larger turbo temps would be lower then the people using the 16g. Also when my turbo goes on (16g6) it will be using 7-10psi wastegate spring. hope that helps

Man, you DEFINITELY haven't been on these forums for awhile if that's what your response to ME was...

Technically, your motor is hanging by a thread right now so why would you want to up the boost? The 4G94 motors don't pop because of HP, they pop because of TQ. And that general TQ number is around 240-260. And your REAL question was stated in your original one in the fact that your car is "fast" and that you aren't satisfied with it being that "fast" and you want it to be faster. So you want everyone to post up all the information on their own turbo setups (insert use the search button here) so that you can justify raising the boost on your own setup.

Now if you don't like my advice, then don't take it. But going were you went with your response just makes you look like a complete jack@$$. This forum's been fine without you being here and maybe it should continue to be that way if that's your attitude towards us.

senate that wasnt called for^

but if the kid wants more power then he has at 7psi give him good advice, invest in pistons/rods/headstuds and then jump up to 12psi, its still in a safe range for the motor..
your talking 1200$ in parts, and none if labor if you have decent mechanic skills. + a new tune.

there are plenty of people runing around with 12-14 psi on stock internals, but tuning is key, and im sure most of them have headstuds and atleast a decomp head gasket to make that a little safer even though they are beyond the limit of the stock internals in most cases.

Senate is one of the smartest, most knowledgeable members of the Lancer forum, I'd shut up and listen if I were you.
What you've asked is for everyone to post up their entire setup (turbo, intercooler, tune, etc), that's the only way you can form any conclusions. Moreover, just because someone's motor hasn't popped yet doesn't mean it won't. You're trying to compare apples to oranges which won't work. Senate's idea really is your only option if you want to turn up the boost and know your limits, trying to convert the maximum boost on a T-28 to the maximum boost on a T4 is ridiculous. You've managed to ignore that they're fundamentally different turbos with different boost characteristics.

First of all, you are runnin a t3t4 which ISNT the same thing as a T3 45trim if you arent hitting full psi till 4k. A T3 would hit 7psi around 3k unless you have a serious exhaust leak pre-turbo. If you want faster spool, you can look into getting a T3 .36 housing which would cut off about 400rpms of lag. Also running a mbc instead of off the wastegate will cut off another 100-200rpms and more power throughout

As for your IC, if you are running a "fat" ic, you are probably robbing spool and i would bet you are also using 2.5" piping which is way to big for your setup also.

Its tq spikes that kill motors. A smaller turbo will make more tq at the same whp as a larger turbo. The op will blow his motor in no time trying to run 240whp when he will probably be like the 260-270wtq range.

A 16g is still bigger than your 45trim. You dont seem like you understand how turbos really work and how the psi/torque effects the motor. Do as i said above and you will be much happier than redoing your entire setup.

BTW, your car is STILL SLOW

My goodness, out of all you people, one person was able to read the question and answer it. I don't need a lecture, I know what I am doing. I've turbocharged several other vehicles, Myself, and I've had this one turboed for 2 1/2 years, no problems....originally street tuned with that pos rrm piggy, then safc2 by , yes me, until about a year ago I went to a tuner for more hp.... and all this in between pulling grades for scholarships in which now I'm entering my 4th year as a premed/biochem student, hmm so maybe I'm not another idiot with a lancer on here...hmm, and all at 21, sorry I didn't go to UTI to be a service tech at honda, and maybe that's nothing to some, fine, but I don't sit on these forums everyday w/ nothing to do but bash the next question that comes in, must lead amazing lives..... It is a T3 45 trim .42 a/r compressor and .48 a/r turbine side, how is someone going to tell me what turbo I run, wtf. I also realize that the trim is just variance and doesn't necessarily determine the size of the housings...and also realize the 16g is bigger and hypothetically should reduce spooling efficiency compared to my turbo now, except you don't what status is at hand... All different turbos will be slightly different on different vehicles, so I only roughly estimate boost rpms, but thank you anyways... Yea the guy is the "smartest" on your forum...no wonder people act like so.....Once again, I didn't ask for a lecture from anyone, like I undoubtedly received, and didn't get but a single answer that I wanted. If I happen to pop my motor then so be it, these motors are cheap and crappy and easy to drop, as I've done before I turboed it, but apparently my motor is on a "thread" now, and has been for 2 1/2 years, that must be a record or something right? My ratios are good, and I have no detonation at higher boost, no knocks, no loud noises ie) lifters etc...no exhaust leaks....this motor has roughly 77k miles on it and still fine, thanks....I also realize a 16g is slightly bigger, this is why I shouldn't have mentioned anything, there are possible complications w/ the setup as it is to restrict boost, but I'm not going to get under and change anything unless modifying it to something new for a change....or else I'd leave it, I have 3 other vehicles and rarely drive this thing, just returned for the end of summer before university starts again and I figured I'd do something constructive while waiting for my z parts....and so, yes, I know this car is slow, so are all your lancers...I am building a 300zx right now that stock would probably smoke most if not all fully built lancers in here, and a modified tt 6cyl will be untouchable by a lancer...I'm well aware of what we have to work with and the fwd platform, why would I pursue building the engine....maybe for some, not for me....either way, I got on here in a friendly manner then proceeded to get ignorant bs from this forums "smartest member" and slightly more from others....I don't understand why people have to act like that to try and prove something, that is the reason that no one likes to get on forums anymore, maybe except your small group....just blows my mind, no reason for it....and since no one is able to answer my originally intended question...then just don't reply, great thanks

Idk i can see where he is upset but the lancer's (4g93 4g94) are getting faster even youtube can show you this a 4g93 @ 500+whp so uhh. that would be more than plenty for me :P With this car. first is at the strip 2nd is dyno

wow, all that and you still have no idea why people have responded the way they have.

First of all, YOU DO NOT HAVE A T3 45trim. Like i said before, if you did, you wouldnt hit a measly 7psi@ 4000rpms. A larger T3 60trim spools 400+ rpms faster than that.... hhhmmm. Plus, a T3 45trim is only rated for 24lbs/min, you deff arent maxing out this turbo at all of 7psi. The T3T4 45trim is a SMALL turbo (which im sure you have) and only rated 350hp where a 16g is rated around 400hp. As for how a turbo responds differently, a larger turbine and housing will not spool up faster as in your 16g response.

BTW, im no professional mechanic yet i have also one off turboed my Lancer 4 years ago when there was only the RRM and TSI kits and i used neither. i made more power on a stock turbo TT than 99.9% of the people out there and w/o a professional tune (very soon will be a gt35r stroked, high comp full build with over 450whp on straight 93). Now you can listen to the people that know what they are talking about, because if YOU knew, you wouldnt be asking
