Lancer w/Turbo.....Questions...

I dont know much about turbos...and I was doing alot of thinking...

I was talking to my good friend for a long time on this issue he is a expert tuner and has been doing turbo installs for many years, he swaps and etc.

He warned me that Turboing the Lancer could definately do ALOT of harm. He told me to expect the life of the engine to be VERY short.
He stated many issues the car has on why i shouldnt bother. Things like the compression on the lancer, fuel management, running lean and more..

We also talked about it being my daily driver. He has a MX-6 with a
J-Spec engine with a Level10 Transmission (his car is very nicely done) And he has a full turbo kit in his house that he got for free...he still has yet to install it because this car is currently his daily driver...(hes waiting to get a **** buick to use as his daily car before he puts on the turbo)

Basically turboing a car that wasnt meant to be turboed and using it as a daily driver can really hurt the engine and kill its life span greatly.

Well, the main reason I'm posting this is to get a feel on what the experts think on the issue. Is it really worth turboing the car if its a daily driver? Putting on alot of miles? And I definately know Id beat the crap out of the car if i had turbo. I do alot of racing now with just my few mods i have done.

Should I just stick to NA Mods and do a port and polish and etc?

Feedback Please.

Thanks.

Always worth turboing...as long as money and time is not a problem.
Also depends on if your going for a light pressure turbo or full blown one.

Alot of work has to be done, thus the best way is to get a half cut Evo with the brackets, housing, wiring and little bits and pieces to make sure you have everything for it. Anything you don't need you can always sell back to the wrecker.

Else if you just install the turbo, best to have an expert do it as they should know which component (internals) will have to be replaced to accomodate without scraficing the power you wish to gain. Also this path is a time consuming processing custom making all the parts to fit.

Other alternative...buy an Evo

Cheers

I have an us lancer, which is N/A and I got had Road///Race turbocharge it. It is my daily driver. it drives great, even better then before because of the extra power. Maybe your friend has had a bad experience with turbo kits, you can turbocharge a N/A car and have it as your daily driver if it is done RIGHT. Also about cutting the life of the engine...i'll tell you what the guy who did my turbo told me, basically the harder you push your car, the more chance of it getting ****ed up. if you take good care of it, and dont race it every time you drive it, then you will have no problems. trust me, its worth it and you can still have your daily driver, that is the main thing I wanted my car to be. rob can answer this better then me, but i tried

Or Rob could do that.

Out of curiousity, on what scale will these kits be made? You guys kinda have the market cornered once it's released, so will there be several made or just a few at a time?

A few a time for now till we find ways of making mass pieces. It is really tuff to make some pieces like downpipe. It takes one guy all day to do one. Plus we have other things going on like customer racecar prep and our own racing that take a lot of energy. We will do our best and it is getting better.

They have kits to beef up your tranny so it can take more abuse/power. Not sure if they make anything for the Lancer yet.... Anyone know?

I'm pretty sure those suspension kits are for the 2G DSM cars since they're mentioning both Chrysler and Mitsubishi.
