both gts paddle shifters and the floor shifter are compatible with the de and es. the floor shifter is pretty easy, you just take out the old shifter and connect the 2 steel cables and 1 wire to the gts shifter and you'll have sport mode. http://9glancers.com/index.php/topic,11803.120.html on the first page of the thread in the link there is a how to if you can't find a gts shifter. it requires cutting out the slot on the shifter needed for the +/- shift range, that and some complicated wiring and you'll have sport mode using the stock de/es shifter.
for paddle shifters the hard part is taking the steering wheel off, after that its plug and play. (im looking for the link that has the how to for the paddles, bear with me)

yup, you can have sport mode with your de cvt tranny. in theory you can also have just paddle shifters because gts's can enter sport mode while in D. i found the how to but its an australian site and they may require you to sign in to see the pics. the how to also includes a parts list, you're going to need a new steering column cover to accommodate for the paddles sticking out of it.

I said in theory. the de/es guys in Australia have the floor shifter with the +/- range standard on their lancers. no one has tried just paddle shifters yet. so im talking from research.
8065A039XA this is the part number that was in the parts list. it's for the lower cover for the column. go to mitsubishparts.net click on oem parts> then part look up> where it says "search by part number" put in the part# and select mitsubishi for make.

I can confirm that you can enter sport mode with the paddles, however I could have sworn last time I did this while the shifter was still in D it kicked me out of sport mode after about 10 seconds and went back to just D. I think the shifter also needs to be in the +/-, but I could be wrong. I'll test it out and confirm on my drive to work today.

Just as I suspected. If your shifter is in D and you turn on sport mode with the paddles, it will revert back to D every time you come to a stop. This means you would have to tap the paddle every time before you hit the gas after stopping for whatever reason. If you tap them while already accelerating in D you gears jump all retarded obviously.

Personally this would drive me crazy so I don't recommend only installing paddles. If you think you can deal with constantly switching back and forth then go for it I guess.

nice set up, and numbers.

be sure to add an extra transmission cooler to help keep those cvt fluids cool. too hot = snapped belt.

any aftermarket transmission cooler should work.
