turbo kits...

okay, i am ready and have made a decision to get a turbo for my lancer. i just want to know where everyone got theirs from and for how much. also, what upgrades (catback,high-flow cat, downpipe, etc) or extra products (BOV,wastegate, pipes, etc) did you have to do/get to make your engine perform without blowing anything. what psi setting did you set it to, and are front mount intercoolers nessesary. if they are, what did you get? i appreciate the help in advance and hope to join your guys' celebration soon on having a turbo lancer!

RoadRace uses custome fabbed Spearco intercoolers for their units. The PSI is around 5'ish with no intercooler (the kit they're currently selling) or can be bumped to around 8 with the addition of said intercooler. Max boost seems to be around 10 with stock internals. As for the staged systems of Phantom/RPW, don't rely on that yet since those kits as of yet, are not confirmed to fit. They are still in the process of working out fitment and other issues. If you really want to know, call RoadRace directly as they will be more able to answer your questions.

can you throw a Turbo into a Automatic Lancer.? I heard it is possible.. but supposedly it won't last ... that it''ll blow out easier than in a stick.. shift...

If you took the time time to run a before you started a , people would probably be more inclined to since they didn't feel they did all the work by themselves.

Just a note: Mitsu auto trannies do not hold power well. Boost is limited to 5'ish as mentioned in that thread and others.

how much extra horsepower are you guys pushing to the wheels?

oh yeah... is there no other way i can increase more boost? or are we stuck at 8psi? well anyways thats cool.... as long as i have a turbo. hey is the evo vII 220hp to the wheels? whats the difference between getting a custom turbo and just buying the evo? sorry for all the questions...but i do appreciate the help! thanks.

You could raise the boost past 8 psi, if your looking for a quick way to need new pistons, and probably even new rods. 8psi is alot on a stock engine with reasonbly high compression. If I were you I would see how many guys are blowing their motors first, and avoid their mistakes. If the kit you want is making 8psi by way of an external wastegate, I suggest that you DON'T invest in a boost controller until you strengten your internals. It is way to easy to keep upping the boost, and before you know it your looking at a rebuild. Speaking from experience. Know your engines limits, stick with them and definitely learn what DETONATION sounds like under boost.

Boost controllers, whether they be manual or electronic will raise boost however, it's always a risky proposition as you may end up with a blown engine. Something not to be taken lightly. Above 10 PSI the Lancer will undoubtedly need reworked internals. As for the difference between a turbo'd Lancer and an Evo...lemme count the ways:

All Wheel Drive, Active Center Differential, Active Yaw Control, DOHC 4G63, an assload of chassis rigidity, a completely different suspension...need I go on?
