Intercooler Question

Just a quick question, again.

IF i have the RRM- non-intercooled turbo kit, and then purchase the intercooler from RRM, is it a direct bolt on to the non-ic kit or is there some welding or other crap that needs to be done?

Thanks

It all depends. You do need new pipes (thats a given). But, If you have auto tranny then you would have to weld the Compressor housing on the turbo and flip it around. This can easily be done. But you wouldnt have to worry if you got Manual.

This topic was discussed a while ago. I remember talking to Rob about it when I first inquired about buying Non-IC, and then going IC later.

The snail housing for the compressor side of the turbo can be swapped between the Non-IC and IC setup. There is a C shaped snap ring holding the housing in place. When you go with the IC, I'm sure Rob can send you the housing with a core charge and refund the core charge when you send your housing back. You'll have to discuss it with them, but I'm sure you can work something out.

Another option would be to find an IC on ebay, a racing shop, or in a junk yard. You can find one with both inlet and outlet on one side, you could keep the compressor housing you have right now. The only issue you'd have would be the piping, but there would be less piping with this setup, then going with the RRM intercooler. You might also run out of room too, which is why I think RRM did it they way they did.

I just sent mines to Rob, and he did it for me. All you have to do is find someone who does aluminum welding. Its not hard at all. Ask someone at a local speed shop. Thay should be able to tell you where to go.
