To the best of my knowledge, they do the same thing. Get one or the other.

i am pretty sure the FMU is boost dependent meaning that it raises fuel pressure a certain psi for every 1psi of boost you run. an FPR i think keeps it at a certain pressure all of the time

yeah, the FMU measures intake manifold pressure to determine how much its going to increase fuel pressure.

You can also get a rising rate fpr (RPW has and uses one for their turbo kits) that increases the fuel pressure as boost levels increase.

Raising this back from the dead -

I probably won't go FI till next summer, but I want to get an FMU or FPR now to help reduce throttle lag, but I also want it to be compatible with both my NA current setup and my future FI setup. Any suggestions on which would be best to go with? I've looked into the FSE FPR that RPW sells, just seeing if there is anything else out there like the Vortech FMU or the AEM FPR. Thanks a bunch!

I have had both FPRs... the RPW one and I am currently running an Aeromotive unit. I onlt ran them exclusively, so I cannot compare. Personally, I dont like the Vortech unit (I have one for sale if you want one), and the AEM FPRs tend to fail at higher boost levels. So choose wisely grasshopper.

My personal advice, if your ultimate goal is FI, then dont worry about NA compatibility and just get the better FPR for your boosting needs.

Thanks for the response, off topic, any word yet on boring? Okay, back on topic - Assume I did just get the FMU or FPR which would work best for FI, would I still feel improvement in my NA setup? Since I'd be getting this 1 year before FI, I would like to enjoy it rather than spend the money on a mod that does me no good really for 12 months. BTW, PM me with what price your asking for the Vortech and is it 12:1? Thanks

Off topic: I am taking the manifold down there for "assessment" today so I should have a price for ya tonight ......

FMU wont do you any good NA, because that is a boost dependent regulator. So when it sees positive pressure, that is when it raises the fuel pressure as per whatever disc you have in (1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 12:1 etc etc)....

As for getting a part that you wont be using for 12 months, lol I wont even say how long it took me to amass my turbo kit, due to lack of the proverbial "money tree" ... and I know how frustrating it is to have parts staring you in the face and never be installed. However, dont short change yourself FI just to have functionability NA as well (which is not the case necessarily here, I am just saying... ) .
