New Alarm

Hey everyone,

I just got a new alarm system with a remote start feature. Before I install it, I was wondering if anyone else has had starter problems after installation? Thanks for any responses.

not I, I got the viper 791XV and it starts it up just fine. A very good feature, just make sure that it is legal to have in your area, because the tickets in some counties around here are $200 +2 points on your reccord.

Is it illegal to have remote start on your car in washington, i did not think there is a law against it, maybe just in the county is it.

it is illegal to have a remote start on any manual transmission vehicle, from what I've heard that is pretty much the same in every state. On vehicles with auto-trannies, it can vary, just check with the local courthouse or DMV

I did not know that, I feel stupid now!! I guess the reason i did not know or did not question it is because I looked into getting an alarm that had the autoremote start feature and the Stereo shop said that they could install it for me it was just a little more intensive, they never said it would have to be on the down low for them to do it.

They said they would need my extra key to wire in with the alarm to bypass the chip in the key to start it and the rest of the installation is the same.

hmmmmm!!??

Maybe they just wanted an extra key to steal my car!!!!

I was actually surprised that is how they bypass the signal from the key to the car, you actullay have a key within remote distance of the sensor, i thought it was wierd though, risky maybe!!

That's pretty weird, and a bit shady. You got me double guessing now.

every county around here is different, where my school is, it is illegal to even have someone install remote start on your car and if you are caught using it, you get a ticket, even if you go out and start your car and walk away, same deal, you cannot leave a running car unattended. But, luckily, where I work, it is legal to get them installed, but again, you cannot use them outside of your own property. I suggest you check because as much as I love it, it would be a pain to have to deal with tickets too.

The guy that asked for your spare key isn't trying to rip you off lol..it's true they do need it to program into the system they actually put it in this box shaped thing and it reads it if you like you can take it out but you have to put another spare in there.. thats what i did instead of a factory spare i had another key made and put that in the box instead

evoracing, that is only for the evo because you guys have a factory buil ignition killer buil in where you need to have a factory key to get the car to remote start, we do not have this at all so there is no reason they should need an extra key for our car.
