Question about remote wire???

I just bought the Sirius satelite radio, and to hook it up u have to run it to a power and ground, so I was gonna run the power wire to the ignition or something that only has power when the accessories are on. Well a couple guys I work with suggested just splicing in the remote wire, I thought u werent supposed to do this because that remote line is kind of sensative, but they assured me that it would be alright. So partly cause I am a dumbass and partly because I am lazy and it was easy, I spliced into the remote wire for power, and used the same ground as the headunit. Well now when I am listening to the Sirius Radio the satelite box will power off and on at random intervals, and sometimes my whole headunit locks up and wont play anything until I turn it off and back on. If I am listening to a CD after awhile the Sub will cut out, and if I am listening to the regular radio after awhile the sub will cut out. I just turned my whole system off because this obviously is causing problems. My question is, Is the problem just my power wire?? I'm gonna mess with it tonight hopefully but I wanted to get some feedback first. My plan is to just splice in to a different power source, and use a different ground than the hu. FYI I didn't have any problems until I installed this. Thanks for ne help

It sounds like the remote wire you spliced and the ground wire you spliced are not making good contact. When you do an aftermarket install it is always best to make a separate ground for it connected to the frame or another grounded piece of metal. For power, there is a blank fuse below on the drivers side near your left knee.. It is slot 10. Just put in an "add-a-circuit" to connect the power wire. It turns on and off the power when you ignition is on. Most people use that fuse plug for their gauges or neons. Re-solder that ground wire on your radio and don't use it as a ground.. for best signal and less interferance on your stereo sound, just leave the headunit ground alone. If anything, it could use a better quality ground cable. I'm pretty sure a loose ground is what is making your radio/subs or whatever keep cutting out. Make sure all your connections are either soldered or crimped with those little metal quick-disconnects. (soldering is better though) After you solder or use the quick disconnects, make sure to wrap them with electrical tape so they don't bump into each other causing your wiring to melt, blow a fuse, or ruin your radio/amp/speakers.

If you wanted to do it the lazy you would have been better to splice into your cigerette lighter wire.

But being lazy never pays off. Go with wiretap's way for best results.

cool, =D See, doing things right and not the "ghetto" way works nearly every time. Good to hear it is working.
