Am Radio Problem

Something is fishy with my stereo. My FM works fine, but my AM does not. I have a pioneer deck in my OZ, with a short antenna....it was on the car when i got it.....The am buzzes really bad and it clicks with the blinkerrs or brake lights when i hit them. When i hold my hand on the antenna it works alot better. I have a feeling my ground on my antenna is not up to par, but i dont know how to fix it or anything. I tried unscrewing the antenna and cleaning out some of the rust on the screw threads, but that did not do alot......anybody have any advice?
Thanks
-Driver

You know, I had this same exact problem on my last car (a Buick). It happened as soon as I swapped out to a new deck. I thought it might have been the deck but when I swapped it into the Mitsubishi, I had no problems. I'm pretty sure this problem isn't with the ground to the deck, it's more likely something with the antenna; you may want to check your antenna connection into your deck.

I know my AM and FM radio on my home theatre pc and my surround sound system in my house have separate antennas for each. It might be something to do with the new antenna not receiving an AM frequency to the fullest extent or something..

I personally know that both the FM & AM radio signal quality went down drasticly with my stubby ant. But you might try a direct ground from the back of the deck to the fire wall or other metal object (frame) inside the dash. That has helped with other HU issues in my past.

It is a fact that your reception will go down with the use of the stubby antenna. You can try changing the audio ground to a clean ground in the kick panel. Good luck, probably just the antenna..

I had issues with AM with my Kenwood HU and now with my Audiobahn HU. I miss AM because the one station always had better traffic information. I will try attaching the ground to a better source and see if that helps.

I love to listen to Tom Leykis but our local am station dropped him because they suck and they're at the end of the dial
