Powering a set of Alpine Type-S speakers
I recently installed a set of Alpine Type-S 6.5s to replace the front stock speakers. I had them hooked up to a Sony 35x2 amp, that was sounded quite good, except when i turned up the HU the bass would almost completly drown out these speakers. These speakers are rated at 40watts RMS and 200 watts peak.
My question is can you overpower coaxial speakers like you can subs w/o damaging them? I currently have a RF 201S which is rated at 50x2 @4ohms and 100x2 @ 2 ohms, and was wondering if wiring them at 100 watts a piece would damage the speaker?
I have always overpowered subs w/o damage, as long as it was clean power w/o distortion. Currently i have a 12 Kicker DVC powered by a 800rms Audiobahn amp with a 1 farad Cap, which pounds harder than anyhting i have heard. that is why i need more highs.
Any help would be appreciated
