Sound system planning
oh
true, forgot about that part. they are kinda expensive. i only mess with the best, other speaker die like the rest.....that's from a movie, minus the speaker part. whatever, XR's are op of the line, i'd save up if you want a bad *** system.
Alright, well, I just heard Higgity Hank's system and definitely like that sound - I think those were the Crystal CPe 60t with 1" titanium tweeters and they definitely match the sound I'm looking for.
I'm gonna try this weekend to find some MB Quarts to hear for a comparison, but I'm pretty sure I'm headed to the Crystals now, especially if I can get yours cheap Hank... but do you think that the ones you pointed to on sale above, the CPe60 with 3/4" silk tweeters will sound much different if you're not going to sell yours? The 1" tweeter really costs a bunch more, at least at Sound Domain, but $100 for that CPe60 system sounds awfully good to me... That cheap, and I can certainly afford to amp them too.
Anyone have any particular recommendations for an amp? I've always been a fan of MTX, but have little experience with many brands. And since I'm looking at 4ch amps to use for the components and then add an amp later, I'm looking for a pretty flexible amp that doesn't specialize in particular frequency ranges.

The 3/4" silk tweet shouldn't sound that much different, you'll experience the softer response of a silk tweet, with a less directional sound but other than that you'll probably run into no real issues. Crystals in general are a nice, colorless system with an excellent response.
On the amp issue, I still love the JBL's. Dollar for dollar, watt for watt, I can't find a more solid, more powerful amp. If you're looking to amp all the way around, or bi-amp components, they've got the JBLBP80.4. Or, if you prefer, they've got the 80.2, and the 180.2 for just the fronts.
I've found the serivce and prices to be excellent at www.ikesound.com
80.2 - $89
180.2 - $149
80.4 - $149
And as an added bonus, they offer free shipping (which I've found to be very quick on multiple occasions)
