HU and MP3 Players?
HU and MP3 Players?
Well I had a FM transmiter (iRiver) so I can play my MP3 player on my radio, but it fried and I thought of something else. Is there a way to run wire from a HU to my MP3 player through the headphone jack? Like a iPod ready HU or something like that but for regular mp3 players. In other words I would like to play my MP3 player just like an iPod even though it's not. Do you get what I'm saying or is it too confusing?
damn... fm transmittors work but they are whack...
Ususally you can search to see if they sell something you can attach via a factory radio besides an FM Modulator.
Your best bet would be to invest some money and get an aftermarket HU, if you don't have one already, and get an iPod adapter for it. Better audio quality when you use a stereo output from the ipod.

There are HU's that have a headphone jack-input. Some even have them right on the front of the deck. All you need is the right cable and then you're all set.

I have an BOSS HU with an AUX port so I can plug something in like an dvd player, portable MP3 player, or any other external audio source
Bought it off Ebay 2 years ago.

I was hoping that there was a adapter for an "iPod ready" HU to run a (headphone jack) wire to my MP3 player and just pretend I have an iPod. Is there any
, because that would open my choices a ton.Grey Fox-
How did you find a AUX wire to convert to a headphone jack wire? Or does your MP3 player have a AUX port? A AUX port is that port with like the seven prongs in a circle right?

Well on my HU I have three sources: CD player, AM/FM radio, and AUX.
For the AUX there is a set of female RCA cables in the back of the unit and I can plug in a set of male RCA cables like the ones I attached below.

hahaha the manual and HU for my BOSS MP3-3080R uses "AUX"
I also did a little searching for you. Look for things like "AUX/MOBILE VIDEO INPUT" or RCA inputs or interconnections.
I also looked on www.alpine-usa.com and found this regarding IPOD ready HU
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=CDA-9856
toward the bottom there is something taking about USB connections.

I'm not going to buy any HU that can play video so I guess I will be just looking for the AUX input, RCA input, and interconnections.
The only problem with the USB connection thing is that when my MP3 is pluged in with the USB cord it thinks I'm downloading things and doesn't allow it to play things (I tried to use it on my Xbox 360). That is why I need to find something that uses the headphone jack and not the USB cord.

I know you not looking for video playback but my HU doesn't have anything video about it, but under the desciption for my HU the "AUX/MOBILE VIDEO INPUT" was present. try ""AUX/MOBILE AUDIO INPUT" also. Don't forget the full "auxiliary" when looking.
For the USB, apparently Alpine has gotten around that with the little box they created.

= What I've been trying to do!
The things shown is a kenwood HU with the optional AUX
cables and the AUX cable to headphone jack cable that Grey Fox posted. So if anybody is trying to do what I am then just look for "AUX input".
I wouldn't worry about the USB this^^^ setup should work and for $160 (more money than my MP3) I'm not going to buy alpine's little box
.

That works. What you can also do if you just have preamp outputs...like I do...you can buy an equalizer (I bought a Clarion EQS-744 for $38 off EBAY...A steal IMO). You run RCA cords from the preamp output to the Main Input on the equalizer. It also has a spot for an AUX input which you can run the RCA Audio/headphone jack plug to the an mp3 player. You can switch from the main input to the AUX input via a button the the front of the equalizer. It also has RCA outputs if you have an amp specifically for subs as well as RCA outputs for front speakers and rear speakers.
